Beautiful restaurant in Ambleside, we went in the evening, lovely menu, had the fish sharing board, cheese pie & liver with mash & lovely veg, all delicious, dog friendly as well & friendly staff

Staff were very pleasant but unfortunately the gluten free sandwich was a lot to be desired. Very small considering it was £10 and then gave the cheek to charge an extra 50pence for 2 cheap gluten free sliced bread slices. A tiny slither of humous with a few roasted vegetables, more crisps than sandwich with a bit of salad garnish.

Myself and my wife had our wedding anniversary evening meal here last night (Fri 29th Dec), the service off the staff was great the food was perfect (great pea & ham soup) and i would certainly recommend to all. The price was very reasonable as well, We will return as we could not of wanted for more. Well done the team at Sheila's.

Super Tomato and herb soup today. Served with artisan bread. Cosy and warm interior. Service was swift and pleasant. Recommended when in Ambleside.

We've been here many times in the past. However, the service is clearly going downhill. We were booked in at 8.15, we arrived on time and from the minute we walked in we were made to feel like an inconvenience. The food was as lovely as ever, but the atmosphere was lacking. Waitresses were doing shots, moaning in the vicinity of us and other customers, several of which had to go and pay at the till as no one attended to their table for long periods of time. We ordered dessert and our waitress made it clear we weren't welcome. Her attitude was disgraceful as a representative for the restaurant. At 2120 we were the last couple in the place and the sense that they wanted us to leave was overwhelming, there was banging and clattering of dishes and trays, candles and lights extinguished and chairs moved. We asked for a break between main and dessert only to be met with an eye roll. We left a low tip which was for the chefs alone as the food was still to the same standard. Probably won't be returning.

Very welcoming dog friendly cafe with pleasant staff. On a wintry snowy day we had a beautiful dish of mushroom & brandy soup accompanied by a sandwich. Both were lovely & were very well received, Will definitely return.

Dropped in for lunch whilst ambling around the town. We were seated quickly but weren't given menus so had to go & find those ourselves. Menu is OK but only had 1 option for vegan / vegetarian which although was nice, didn't offer any choice. The soup (carrot & coriander) had been made with dairy so that wasn't an option. Sandwiches were nice - lovely bread & decently filled but expensive. £10 for a coronation chicken with 2 small rounds of bread. Overall, lunch was expensive for what we got - I was supposed to get salad & crisps with my sandwich but was missing. Would we go back - possibly, but not rushing back Would we recommend - no. Too expensive

Booked at the last minute and managed to get a table. Food was excellent and service polite and prompt. Would definitely return if we were in Ambleside.

The food was good but, once again, its another place that has an aversion to heating the place adequately. Many diners had their coats on whilst dining - which kind of tells you something. The staff were rather anonymous, neither pleasant nor hostile. However the food was very good, and decent value - just a pity it's not a place to visit on a cold day.
Another first stop off for lunch as soon as we arrived. Sheilas kitchen is a firm favourite with us. Creatures of habit we always have the rarebit with bacon- just as good as always. The homemade soup was delicious too.It has a cosy unpretentious vibe & always service with a smile & a friendly chat. Good value. We will be back!! Thank you.

Came here in the evening with our two very tired dogs after a long walk in the day. The staff were very welcoming, all really friendly and our dogs were offered treats and water which was a nice touch! The food was fab, really hearty after a long day. Staff were all really lovely and made time to chat with us which really gave the meal a personal touch. Overall, really loved this place and would come back!

Visited here on a recommendation & we were very pleased. The food & service was first class. The prices, whilst on the high side, were on a par with most places in Ambleside - ie expensive. However the fare was worth it in our opinion. So much so that we’d eat here again.
