We came in here after our 5 hour hike as we really fancied and chippy. We usually go to one in Keswick but whilst we’d been in Grasmere we decided to find one in Ambelside. WHAT A MISTAKE. I ordered 2 fish and chips, 1 mushy peas, 2 curry sauces and it came to £35. I thought I misheard the woman but no. £35 for a chippy. Not just any chippy the worst chippy I’ve ever had. The curry sauce was like water. The mushy peas were tasteless and you got the smallest portion. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND AVOID AT ALL COSTS unless you like paying for overpriced crap.

I wish I had checked the reviews before calling in last night and wasting my time. I ordered fish and chips twice, single sausage, one pot mushy peas, one pot curry sauce and a can of pop. The guy then asked me for £34.50!! Naturally I told him he had made a huge mistake and to check it. Nope, that was the price! I bought the can of pop and left. I heard him saying something about me as I left. Great customer service guys. The same order from my local chippy is under £20.00. I used to follow this chippy quite a bit but now you can go shove your business right up your A**E. My advice don't give these greedy tossers your hard owned money. Vote with your feet and go elsewhere people!

Really expensive and poor quality but what makes it worse is witnessing the behaviour of the staff were rude and aggressive to a tourist who questioned the 4.25 price for chips I am local but staff behaving like this is not on and not a way to attract people to the lakes or their business I understand you are not from the area but have some respect for the country you have chosen to live in and your customers and listen to customer feedback. Disgusting and won't be back. I am literally appalled by my experience there.

Bought a large portion of chips and a battered sausage for 8.70 from here and the portion was tiny. The staff were really arrogant and left us waiting for quite some time, ignoring that we were even there. The food itself was very average so wouldn’t recommend.

Incredibly overpriced. Small tray of chips (level with the rim of the tray) plus a wrinkled and hard battered sausage for £8.70. Staff were rude and dismissive. Quality of the food was just okay.

On a positive note the owner was friendly and the chips were tasty. The chip portion is small and so is the mostly batter fish. The menu price is incorrect on their google page. The chips are now £4.50 (from memory). With the smothered batter fish and a small tub of curry sauce the bill came to £14:75. We also asked for some napkins. They said they’d bring us some. Never arrived. I guess there is no competition in the town or the rates are stupidly high. I’d find somewhere else if I were you

Surely the most overpriced chippy outside of London. We ordered the saddest burger you could ever buy. No salad, no extras, no frills. £4.25! A measly fishcake was £3.80! I was expecting something a bit more for my money. Feels like a tourist trap. Looks bog standard, chips were alright but at £4.25 for a portion for one.....it's just no worth it. Don't ruin your dinner or trip to Ambleside by going here. There is so much more on offer. I hope this saved someone having a disappointing dinner.

What a terrible overpriced chip shop, I thought the prices we pay back home on the South Coast were expensive but this place is on another level, £13.00 for fish and chips.Only dropped in for a couple of portions of chips to go with our Chilli we had waiting for us back at our accommodation but this place failed at the most basic task of a chip shop and that is to cook chips, everything appears to be cooked to order and it would appear uncooked chips are added to already cooking chips when other people order after you as both our portions included some aneamic looking barely cooked chips along with crunchy uncooked ones, what a waste of £9 for 2 portions of chips and totally spoilt our T, they also don't serve peoples food in the order that you order as someone that came in several customers after us was given their food before us.Had much better fish & chips and much cheaper a week ago at another chip shop by the waterside

Dreadful service, only one person before us in the queue, told us it was a 20 minute wait for 3 lot's of fish and chips, we went elsewhere, what a way to run a business

Terribly overpriced, food was mediocre. Very small fish, Haggis and 1 potion of chips for £17. Quite simply won't visit again.

I called by a few nights ago...they wanted about £13 for fish and chips. Absolutely unbelievable, even for a touristy place. A portion of chips was about £4.20!! I needed to eat, so I reluctantly bought a portion, and added it to my Tesco meal deal and put them inside my sandwich to make a meal of it. They probably don't care as most of the people using them are probably tourists so are used to being ripped off.

Big spacious fish and chip shop located in a very accessible road, you can eat in or take away. The food was fresh and delicious… the curry sauce was delicious… prices are affordable. The service was nice and polite. You can pay with card or cash.

I was shocked at the prices on the menu. Staff clarified that the prices were correct and they were helpful in explaining portion sizes.Still too expensive for us, so we left without buying anything. The staff were friendly, polite and helpful.I just can't get over the prices!
