Lovely decor. Only one issue with the food, being that my steak was only luke warm when served. But perfectly cooked otherwise.Service was great and we were pleased to find they are dog friendly, which makes visiting whilst in the area much easier.Would definitely return.Vegetarian options: Limited Vegan choices. But the one main option was good.Parking: Parking is right next to hotel/restaurant. Was reasonably priced. With £3 for 2.5hr whilst dining.

The Penny Blue Restaurant came up on a trip advisor search. Glad it did or we wouldn't have known it was there. I had the parfait, steak and then cheesecake. All were great. Had a few bottles of wine to wash it down. The service was great. I really need to start noting names so I can thank personally.

I went for a meal with my boyfriend for his birthday and the experience was lovely! We got treated to some free champagne and the food was delicious. Amazing place for a day out. Will be coming back :)

Stayed last year fabulous Sunday roast fabulous loved watching the chefs preparing itStayed elsewhere just for a cost comparison could not wait for the meal today had ranted to friends saying it was the best we ever had and it was good again today but the plate was cold which spoiled it a bit so it went from a 10 out of 10 to an 8 but still very good just a little detail that makes a huge difference

Most definitely my favourite place to eat in Carlisle. The menu, and execution of it, are of an extremely high standard. There is something for everyone too with a good selection of vegetarian choices. Favourites from the current menu: Pan fried Scallops with butternut squash puree to start. Duck with orange glaze and Salmon with lemon and ginger (for mains). The wine on offer is also of a good standard. For those who prefer simpler food stuff there is the option of burgers, fish and chips and salads. Very highly recommended.

We visited for my graduation dinner this week - both myself and my mum are coeliac and it was no problem at all. The food was beautiful and even our most difficult to please guests have not stopped talking about the brilliant standard of food! Looking forward to our next visit!

Visited here for first time in couple of years. I’ve always enjoyed it but have to say that the quality of food has excelled. Every item we bought in a group of 4 was delicious. I would highly recommend to anyone that enjoys their food.

The "very good" reflects mostly the chef/kitchen staff, and an "average" would be unfair to them. However: We went on a wet Sunday night at the end of October - there isn't a lot of choice of paces to eat in Carlisle at this time, but the web site, menus and reviews were interesting. The building (ex post office) has been really nicely adapted. It is a classy venue. The menu and short wine list are very interesting, especially for a restaurant attached to hotel (which often goes very generic). The food (and wine) were actually very good and matched the aspiration of the menu - well done chef. The home cured salmon starter in particular was a very nice plate of food. The Sunday evening service let the restaurant (and the kitchen staff) down. I don't enjoy criticising young staff, but inexperience, and/or lack of supervision, showed. The restaurant wasn't full, but we were far from the only groups of diners. We don't have very high expectations (in fact we don't enjoy overly attentive/intrusive waiters) nor do we expect to be treated as very special. They were not awful or rude. Just essentially disinterested... more interested in chatting to each other and getting ready to finish their shift ASAP rather than providing service to the paying customers. We were not "late night"... our booking was 6:15 pm...
