We loved the place from the moment we set foot inside. The service was outstanding; attentive but not intrusive, professional yet friendly. The dishes were small bombs of flavour and surprises ( good ones). I can’t wait to return for their next menu.

SannaS

First visit to Sannas in Carlisle and really enjoyed it. A wonderful calm atmosphere in a beautiful old town house.Food was exquisite and the service brilliant.Would definitely recommend

Beehive

A great find in a residential area. Staff went above and beyond to enable us to get a table on a busy Thursday night. Then very attentive without being obtrusive.Whilst there were seven TV's in the pub all showing football, don't be put off. The punters were all very respectful, no rowdiness or shouting.The food was good pub food, reasonably priced and well presented.The quiz that followed was good fun and made for a good atmosphere.

Romano Pizzeria

They say the “Best Pizza in Town” and who am I to argue? It is great pizza and it is served Roma style so you can choose your slice and they pop it in the oven to be heated up. They are located in the Old Market Hall so the ambience is what it is. They do have a number of tables so if you eat-in you can watch the parade of people. They do a brisk take-away business. You can also order whole pizzas to eat-in or take-away. They have a selection of soft drinks and Birra Moretti. Romano Pizzeria is a taste of Italy right in the midst of Carlisle.

Khan's at the Waterloo

Absolutely gorgeous food and really helpful staff, they will tweak the dishes to suit your taste, definitely recommend my only slight mark down was lighting is very bright so not very atmospheric.

Penny Blue Restaurant & Bar

Lovely decor. Only one issue with the food, being that my steak was only luke warm when served. But perfectly cooked otherwise.Service was great and we were pleased to find they are dog friendly, which makes visiting whilst in the area much easier.Would definitely return.Vegetarian options: Limited Vegan choices. But the one main option was good.Parking: Parking is right next to hotel/restaurant. Was reasonably priced. With £3 for 2.5hr whilst dining.

Royal Outpost Thai & Asian Restaurant Carlisle

Fantastic food, not the biggest menu but they do everything well and I struggled to choose as I would have had all of it if I could.Nice cocktails too as a bonus. Will definitely be back.

The Old Bank

It was my first visit here for lunch yesterday and I can honestly say I was not disappointed!After a little while, it was a difficult decision, soo many yummy choices on the menu, I went for the House burger with Oak Smoked Cheddar and it was absolutely delicious? My friend ordered The Big Breakfast burger (no photo of that, sorry) but it was huge and delicious!! Lovely atmosphere, very attentive staff, look forward to visiting again, check it out!

Walkabout - Carlisle

Visited walkabout for the football a couple of times & Adam has always been very helpful with food & drink..bringing us food upstairs and making sure the commentary was on the big screen

Harraby Pub & Kitchen

Great pub/restaurant this and my commendation to the bar maid who sorted us. I think she was Sarah? Very attentive and explained the menu and the specials and how to save a few quid. This even though she was clearly very busy. Pool table, big screen sport and lovely beer garden, the Harraby Pub & Kitchen ticks all the boxes for sure and it is dog friendly. Wide range of food on the menu from small plates of wings to all day breakfasts. Easily accessible from a quiet car park off the main road and great for wheel chair users as a fairly level site. Food was above average and enjoyed by us four on an Easter Friday that was pretty busy and great atmosphere in the pub. If you're in the area this is a safe bet for sure.

Rickerby Retreat Bar

This is the second time I have reviewed this place and it did not disappoint.Absolutely love it here, the high-end quirkiness, the laid back atmosphere, the decor is beautiful (see previous photos) and the food is just scrumptious.This time I took my other half and we had a Deli sharing platter. I could gush about almost every item on that board. The bread, which I was told was baked fresh on the premises, was to die for.Best Mocha I have had in a long time that I didn't make myself. Even my other half liked his coffee and he is more fussy over coffee than I am.Can not fault this place. Yes it might have been a bit more expensive than some cafes but the food and service is absolutely worth it.We will most definitely be back!!Parking: Adequate parkingWheelchair accessibility: They have a lift up to the bar.

In The Meantime

Booked a table of 3 for bottomless pizza night and it was well worth the money, pizza slices were huge ? staff were very quick to see if we wanted anymore slices and our plates were never empty, deffo be back!

The Fryery

Walk in customer. Staff nice, easy to talk to asked all the questions did I need s and v. I was buying for everyone at work and I had forgotten to ask that important question, so the prompt was good. I liked the way everyone said goodbye as I left, nice touch.

What a truly delicious meal. I had to come back to make sure. Huge compliments to the kitchen. And to top it off, the front of house was just brilliant. Great atmosphere, Great staff. I will be back....

Spice Fusion

WOW! We ordered for 14 people and it was ready in 40 minutes on a Saturday night! The staff helped us to the car with our food and it was all gorgeous! No complaints , not one bit left over Thank you so much!

The Maharaj

We stayed in the countryside near Carlisle and fancied a takeaway. I phoned The Maharaj but as we were in the middle of the countryside my phone signal kept dropping out. I got a text then saying I could order through text , I did. The food arrived and was excellent quality and portion size. The person at the end of the text was very helpful and the delivery driver was friendly and polite. We will definitely use them again when we are back in the area .

The Blue Bell

Brilliant little pub, you can tell the care they take in serving good pints. Would highly recommend to anyone on their way past, Guinness was top notch. Nice log burner and darts board too!

Penny Farthing Coffee House

We had the small breakfast priced at £5.25 . It was absolutely lovely , all cooked freshly and served by pleasant and helpful staff . We couldn’t fault it . Great value for money . It included toast and tea or coffee too . We had stayed in the nearby Travelodge , so it was very handy to come to Penny Farthing for breakfast .

Alex's Pasta Bar

Absolutely amazing went there for a friends birthday. Great atmosphere and the waitress Helena was so welcoming. Even gave us free shots afterward. Food was amazing will definitely be back again soon.

Thin White Duke

Been here several times before and always great. Staff are lovely and food is great. They have a nice selection of cocktails and drinks. Would recommend but advise booking as it can get busy.

Great atmosphere. Given it was a Saturday night it wasn’t too busy. It meant that there was a really nice relaxed social atmosphere that meant you could have a game of pool without worrying someone was going to spill there pint on you! And obviously 10/10 on the beers as always!Vegetarian options: Good vegetarian options given the limited menu.

Border Gate Beefeater

Great place for a catch up. I gave 4 for the food because although my steak was cooked perfectly, it was served with just a small tump of chips. For the price, I would have expected some veg or salad! It was a fillet and presentation was more than disappointing. Their allergy table is comprehensive.

Great food fantastic service lovely people to deal with. Fast delivery service very friendly place to eat.. Still doing a first class job despite covid. Just had two takeaways on Friday and Saturday they are even better than previous occasions. This undoubtedly the best Chinese in town. Covid standards still being maintained. Just had another first class meal they undoubtedly go the extra mile to accommodate there customers.Parking: Off street parking

Abbey Court Guesthouse

Perfect location to the centre of Carlisle. The guest house is so clean, cosy, quiet and has everything you need. Our room was so lovely and relaxing. Breakfast was brilliant and staff so friendly and welcoming. Would recommend to others to stay here :)

Moto Todhills Southbound

Only visited the Costa but what a lovely branch. Spotlessly clean, cosy and staff most welcoming.Not a lot of parking spaces but I hit on when it was quiet and got my campervan parked, no bother. Not ideal for big motorhomes though and any waste ground was occupied by HGVs

I collect from here and deliver to Telford CML grew up with Darren one of the managers worked with Tommy at Robertsons bakery before it burned down, try the new teddy bear crumpets , excellent value for money and delicious with salted butter and marmalade

Carlisle Station Hotel | Sure Collection by Best Western

Stayed here 1 night as a stop over on way to Glasgow and so glad we did. Hotel is immaculate, very clean and the room was great with all we needed. Staff were amazing and so helpful on reception and friendly and the dining room staff at breakfast where exceptional. Emily was brilliant as my dad is gluten free and a gluten free breakfast was provided no hassle and brilliant. Would 100 percent recommend staying here for the price it's a gem of a hotel

I only pulled in because I hit a ferkin pothole that took out my front tyre.. On the Carlisle roundabout North bound slip.. Another £100. Why are we paying road tax... Anyway I got a caramel hot chocolate and it was great and the lady behind the counter was very pleasant and chatty...

Home & Away

Great place. Fish cooked fresh to order and was a generous portion. My husband had the kebab and it was huge and lots of fresh salad. Really friendly staff. We will definitely be back

Great little take away! Ordered here by accident online. Once the order arrived within 25 minutes of ordering. It was cooked fresh.. everything tasted lovely. Will definitely order again.

Alexandros Greek Restaurant and Deli

Booked a meal for 3 on the way up to Scotland. Blown away by how good the food and service was. Truely exceptional traditional Greek food. We did the Sharing platter and every dish was 10/10.Will be making it a regular stop for all further golf trips up to Scotland!!!

Sally's

Had a wonderful lunch at Sally's today. Ploughman's, panini and ham and cheese role with various drinks.Could not fault any of the food, even brought so.e chicken for the pooch. Very friendly and great atmosphere. We will definitely visit again.

Fontanas

Fontana’s fish and chip shop was a find for us many years ago while travelling south of the border heading on holidays. When you see somewhere like this with a long (Zigzag) queue you can expect the grub to be good and it doesn’t disappoint. Stopped here last night after running an errand to Carlisle and had the fish and chips, more like a whale supper tbh. Portion of chips was enormous, loads under that fish, and too many for me to finish without being gluttonous. I like how they name the trawler the fish was caught from. Bit of a wait to be served about 10 minutes but worth the wait if you are calling. Oh, and only £7.50 cheaper than back home.

Toby Carvery Carlisle

I'm so excited to brag on their behalf here, I now go weekly with my dad and as a disabled person unable to walk in a electricwheelchair they are more than accommodating. moving barriers and offering extra help when needed to get around or just checking up on us! its helped me feel less stuck with options as many older buildings in Carlisle struggle to adapt for wheelchair acess. I have they keep up the good work!Vegetarian options: amazing options ask for them and boomWheelchair accessibility: very helpful and kind easy to get around and bathroom is very well situated

Papa Johns Pizza

Ordered a American Hot pizza to collect. Was part of the deals they had on. Pizza lot bigger than expected for the price I paid. Was well cooked and very tasty. Great dough base. Not a fan of their garlic and herb dip though, nowhere near as nice as Dominos. Great

Shaha Tandoori Restaurant

Couldn't fault the curry. 6 of us with all different curries, everyone enjoyed theirs. Poppadoms to start and chicken tandoori balti for main with rice. Really tasty. I thought the staff were a bit miserable and didn't look or sound like they wanted to be there.

Pentonbridge Inn

The taster menu is a beautiful and tantalising dining experience. Staff were attentive and informative about the produce and food preparation. A lovely atmosphere. Also, the speed at which the dishes came to the table was perfect. Not rushed, but neither too slow; just right. I didn't stay. Therefore, I can not comment in the rooms.

Gianni's Pizzeria

Lovely friendly staff , great service , reasonable prices ...only two lagers , a nice stella would have made night..Kid-friendliness: Well only that there was families with children in there and seemed content

The Boardroom

This is an old style public house. It is services the usual drinks both bottles and draft beers as well as wine. It has a brilliant duke box and plenty of seating. The pub is very friendly and welcoming and the beers are kept very well. If you want a great drink in a decent pub this is it.

Chutneys

Plesently surprised with this takeaway...really enjoyed the Chicken Tikka Madras...plenty of flavour and a good texture ...will defo be back and try a different curry...

Great bookshop with a very large second hand section. Well organised by category and author. Helpful staff and the feeling of anticipation of finding that hidden treasure among all the previously loved books makes a visit very much worth your while.

Real grassroots venue. Taps in the ladies toilets very difficult to operate. Finding the sweet spot where the water comes out was like finding a needle in a haystack, some gave up assuming they weren’t working.

Whytes Cafe Bar

We dropped by here for a quick lunch while visiting Carlisle and it was a great decision. All the food and drinks we had tasted great and the portions were generous. The prices were good, and the service was super friendly and efficient. Overall a great experience and would definitely recommend place.

Castlegate Coffee House

Phoned them for an afternoon tea at short notice after an unexpected visit to Carlisle, couldn't do usual, but what they did provide was excellent and beautifully presented, would def go again, very recommended!

Foxes Café Lounge

Great staff, food and ambience. Today I had the carrot & coriander soup, with a tuna melt, absolutely cannot fault the food. We'll be back again, keep up the great standard.

Central Chippy

Chose this wee chippy for a quick stop for tea enroute down to Plymouth. The staff were lovely and happy to cook what ever we chose. We opted for one large and one medium cod and chips. Delicious the batter was crispy not greasey and the cod was really fresh and tasted lovely. We will definitely visit again !! thank you ladies.

The Source

It really is a fantastic little place for performers and audiences. I don't know of anywhere else you can catch a spoken word night, an electronic music set at an open mic and then a sludge metal band, all within a few days of each other. The platform it gives to musicians that are just starting out or that would otherwise struggle to get in front of audience is brilliant too. The staff are all wonderful too! Give them a follow on socials and keep an eye on the upcoming events, there really is something for everyone.

Gyropolis

Me and my other half had wonderful haloumi and chicken pita wraps for our lunch - absolutely fantastic, filled to the brim and certainly kept us going for the rest of our trip round Carlisle! I had the haloumi wrap with lovely peppers, red onions, tomato, cucumber, tzatziki and chips. And the sprinkling of oregano made it extra delicious ? thank you to the lovely staff, I've wanted to try one of these wraps for ages, and wasn't disappointed! Will certainly come back, and recommend this for anyone who loves Greek food ☺️

Spinners Arms

Went to the Sunday afternoon live music session (run by the Spinners Arms once a month) What a brilliant time we had!!I'd definitely recommend a trip to this lovely little traditional pub in the village of Cummersdale on the outskirts of Carlisle which serves Carlisle Brewing Company hand pulled ales and great entertainment. Lovely landlady and friendly helpful staff well done!!Parking: Central village car park

The Chimes Cafe

This small cafe is located by the cathedral. The staff are lovely and the food they prepare is good old washed tasty meals. This is a popular place with locals, who want to watch the world go by.
