SannaS
30 Lowther St, CarlisleI booked for eight of us on a Monday night at this charming little restaurant. When we arrived it was packed, we were shown to our table straightaway and our server Emma was with us immediately to take our drinks order. The menu offered a good range of starters, mains of pastas, pizzas and risottos, but also blade of beef and chicken dishes. The house wine was very good and reasonably priced. All the girls that served us were excellent and friendly despite being very busy, but a HUGE shout out to Emma who looked after us throughout and nothing was too much trouble. A fabulous evening at this lovely Sardinian restaurant - try it you won't be disappointed.

Romano Pizzeria
55-56, THE MARKET HALL, Scotch St, CarlisleThey say the “Best Pizza in Town” and who am I to argue? It is great pizza and it is served Roma style so you can choose your slice and they pop it in the oven to be heated up. They are located in the Old Market Hall so the ambience is what it is. They do have a number of tables so if you eat-in you can watch the parade of people. They do a brisk take-away business. You can also order whole pizzas to eat-in or take-away. They have a selection of soft drinks and Birra Moretti. Romano Pizzeria is a taste of Italy right in the midst of Carlisle.

As a baker I'm very fussy when it comes to cake. If I'm having cake I want rich, indulgent dense delicious cake, not tiny portion delicate airy fairy rubbish. It's better to have a big slice and cut it in two (if so inclined) than feel short changed. This cake is AMAZING. Worth 10x the price and I can't wait to go back. The Milbourne Arms
Milbourne Arms, 150 Milbourne St, CarlisleNice place. Part of a mini heritage chain that showcases history of state ownership of pubs in Carlisle. Two friendly blokes work there. Met the owner once - also friendly. Superb real ale rotated every couple of weeks I think. Real ale price reduced on Thursday. Very dog friendly. All areas very clean. Superb establishment.

The Sportsman Inn

Penny Blue Restaurant & Bar
20-34 Warwick Rd, CarlisleA reunion meal between two old army blokes and a girl friend. Pick your place I was told so I selected the Penny Blue. The meal, the service and the staff were all great. The feel of the Restuarant despite appearing ‘posh’ was friendly and homely. The 3 of us had a nice relaxing meal and despite it being busy never felt rushed or as if we were in the way. 40 years of friendship renewed in the best way possible.
