The friendly staff went out of their way to fit our booking for a table of eight in on a busy Sunday afternoon. The roast beef was delicious as was the nut roast and cauliflower cheese. Lovely ambiance and setting. The food is good value for money, the beers are on the pricey side but as it’s a small craft brewery it’s nice to support and try different beers from the usual ones. One small note; it was a shame that the staff started clearing the plates before everyone had finished as this made us feel a bit rushed. Overall a lovely experience though and we will be back.

Wheelchair access is tricky because of cobblestones and a pothole in front of the entrance. Loos are on a level surface but very small. A large part of the interior is accessible but not the conservatory or the beer garden. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. Food and drink are excellent.

Visited because we wanted a good pub meal and it didn't disappoint. Told by the manager there was a wait, after 45 mins the manager came over with our menus. Pork chop with mustard and apple sauce...... incredible. Give the chefs a pat on the back. Will defo be back when next in the area.

Only popped in for a drink. They are dog friendly which is brilliant. They have a nice garden plus a sort of conservatory. They serve comfort food fish and chips etc, but didn't have a chance to try any.

Really friendly staff. The kitchen took our order a few minutes before their scheduled end of dinner service which, having previously worked in hospitality, is a rarity. Terrific selection of beers that you wouldn't even find in a taphouse in central Brighton or Manchester. The first place I've found in the UK serving dunkel beer!!Dog friendly is a bonus and they put up with our bouncy girl.

Came here for my 50th birthday. We had a lovely Sunday roast, which is the best I've had. Staff are lovely and friendly. There is a lovely stream nearby, where your dogs can play in. Ask for thr cauliflower cheese, it's the best!!Nearby activities: Lovely walks along the streamWalkability: Central to Cartmel town

Return visit and weren’t disappointed. Outstanding staff, so friendly! We enjoyed a bar meal here in a cosy alcove, listening to great music before being served super pub grub. Really good atmosphere in here and we’d definitely recommend.

Regularly enjoy Sunday lunch here. Highly recommend a visit to anyone in the Cartmel area. Great food, beautifully cooked meats, imaginative vegetables, best roast spuds for miles, gravy, and extra gravy available! As I'm a Lancashire Lass, I was born with gravy in my veins, so this is a very important and impressive feature of Royal Oak Sunday Lunch! Sit outside on a lovely day, cosy up inside on cold and/or rainy days, or there's the conservatory for the in-between weather! Service is always absolutely impeccable and noteworthy. I really appreciated the lovely person in charge who noticed my dad was disabled and unsteady on his feet and so just seated him at the closest table and just swapped the reservation signs around to save him walking further than absolutely necessary. Whether you want a leisurely, relaxed, tasty, and friendly Sunday lunch experience or a good night out with friends and tasty food and events mid week, give The Royal Oak a try. You won't regret it, or its warm Cumbrian welcome or, indeed, the lovely cheerful service of all their engaging and interesting international bar staff members.Food & drinks: Excellent in every way. Sunday lunch, particularly good... see review!

Had a lovely meal and evening with a party of 6 (3 x couples), although the Mains and Desserts menus was a bit on the small size. Main course options were: Hunters Chicken, Fish and Chips, Pork Schnitzel, and a veg option. There was a specials board with a couple of additional choices, but as we were choosing (table booked 7.30) we were politely told one main special was off. Dessert choice was Sticky Toffee with ice cream, or ice cream. Limited choices but the food was very good indeed, as was the service. Pub setting was lovely and old English traditional with a modern extension and beautiful garden to the rear. Drinks choice in the bar was a also excellent and service at the bar very friendly and helpful. However, on receiving the bill it was noticed there had automatically been a 10% Service Charge added within the total, with no mention of this being discretionary etc. Considering it was not 100% table service as you had to go to the bar to order, this was surprising. Ironically had this apparently automatic service charge not been on the bill, we would have all chipped in a more generous tip, but all of us were taken aback a little and duly paid the bill as presented. My wife and I would return, but will try another local bar/restaurant beforehand.

Had lunch here twice during a weeks holiday nearby. Both the food and the welcome were really top-notch. We will come here again. Highly recommended. PS. Dog friendly--pot of dog biscuits on the bar.

A decent village pub with an exceptional beer garden. The food was good without being spectacular. A year ago prices wouldn't have been as hiked as they seemed to me. £7 for loaded fries. £8 for two pretzels. £15 for a main. A meal for four with two rounds of drinks came in about £100.

We’ve visited the Royal Oak a number of times over the years & have enjoyed the pub & its location , it’s a lovely oldie Worldie pub with lots of dark wood, low ceilings & slate floors. They have a very large outside pretty back garden overlooking the beck.We recently visited on Cartmel race day. We’d pre-booked a table for dinner after the races. It was a very hot day, so on arrival we were lucky to find a table outside, we informed the staff we had arrived & were told we could only have food served inside?? So we reluctantly moved inside, (only 2 other tables inside were occupied & eating). Drinks were served in plastic glasses even though we were eating & had prebooked. We all spoke to the manager/senior member of staff before ordering to give our feedback about our disappointment at sitting inside & the plastic glasses. She was very dismissive to the point we thought her quite rude. She actually said ‘i’ll try & ensure the chef doesn’t spit in your food’ !!! we were so taken aback none of us answered. On a positive note the food was good (plus, we think it was ‘minus’ spit…. result ?).Obviously NO tip was left even though the food was good (sorry Chef & kitchen staff).
