One of the best pubs in the

Still a stunning pub in an achingly lovely north Cumberland village. Terrific Black Sail beer at a good price, knowledgeable locals who own and frequent the place. A 20 year success story which I hope will continue. And with 150 shareholders ( plus waiting list ) it has every chance of thriving for another 20.

Absolutely perfect pub; great atmosphere, bar games, cute village. Not the greatest selection of beers but good spirits range. Could have stayed all day.

Excellent village pub. Great locally brewed beers, (brewery behind the pub). Lovely friendly pub.

The food was good and cooked fresh, we had the pie and the scampi better than where we ate last night, enjoyed the home made sweet, will definitely call again.

We had an excellent meal in the Old Crown after attending the village bonfire and firework display. The food was delicious and portions were generous. It was a lovely end to our short break in the Lakes. Well done Old Crown and the community of Hesket Newmarket!

Recommended by the Monkhouse Hill Cottages owners, who are part of the owning cooperative, we were found a table for dinner despite not booking and were charmed by the decor, atmosphere and staff. Best of all was the food though - my husband raved about the steak and ale pie and the mango and passion fruit cheesecake and the children were defeated by the chocolate fudge cake!

I can't review food as no one came to serve us despite waiting 20 minutes. The waitress then served the table next to us who had arrived ten minutes after us, so we left.
