It was okay. We visited Alexander's as we were staying at the castle green hotel. The pub is a very quaint little stone building set in the hotels grounds and is nice country and cosy inside. However, on our visit the place was severely understaffed, we waited an hour and a half for starters (which was just bread and oil) then a further half hour for the mains. Food was ok, average quality so pretty overpriced for what it was. Staff tried to do their best with the situation and gave us some discount but a 2 hours wait for average food meant the evening was disappointing. Would be ok on a less busy day of you just wanted a quick bite, but nothing to write home about.

Arrived without a reservation at 1.15pm, the waiter explained that we were very welcome but that the kitchen was busy and so our food would take 30 minutes. We were happy with this and the staff methodically worked through the tables etc and were very friendly and efficient throughout. We had opted for a simple roast which was very good and the deserts looked great (and the happy eaters confirmed that they were) but we were heading south for a flight home. A great spot to eat just outside Kendal.

Every year 8 of us meet for lunch We all went to school together many moons ago. We started meeting when we all reached 50 we are now celebrating our 80th birthdays and we have tried numerous places for lunch . Last year we came to Alexander’s and enjoyed it so decided we would come again this year. Again it didn’t disappoint. The waiter was a lovely young man who informed us we could have smaller portions if we wanted. Most of us opted for the smaller ones and there was ample on the plate. I had the beef it came with 1roast potato mashed potato, carrot and swede, parsnips broccoli and cauliflower and Yorkshire pudding and several slices of beef. The only thing was that the broccoli and cauliflower wasn’t cooked enough for me . Sticky toffee pudding to follow. All for £14.99 The whole meal (apart from hard veg) was delicious. See you next year

The service from the staff was excellent ,on the few times they weren’t rushed off there feet by the manager who clearly wasn’t helping , the food was excellent, however we did feel rushed as the table was double booked , would like to return again and see everyone helping out .

They only serve disappointing sandwiches until 5 which is not displayed anywhere. Would recommend avoiding

Lovely inside , however, I tripped on the way in on a puddle and fell over, this wasn’t their fault but I reported it so that they could mop up the water in case of another accident and nothing was done! It took along time to take our order as it was busy, when food did come, I had the vegetable lasagne which looked like it has sat in the fridge for a few days, when I tried to eat it it was so dry and bland that I couldn’t eat more than a few mouthfuls . Nobody came to check on us to see how our meal was until the end and it was so busy I didn’t want to draw attention by calling someone over so just ate the chips. When they came to take our plates I did tell them but didn’t offer any apology or offer of anything else. Worst meal I’ve had in a long time! My husband did enjoy his meal tho who isn’t vegetarian!….only visit if you’re not a vegetarian!

Nice little dining establishment. We had the soup of the day, and it was beautiful. As far as pub grub goes, this was perfect. My partner had the gammon, and I had the chicken and mash no complaints with neither choice. I was 56 quid for 2 well-made starters, 2 large and cooked perfectly dinners and two drinks. No complaints.

Very average food; roast turkey was bland, broccoli was undercooked, roast potatoes had zero crisp. Nachos were tasty but the portion was tiny and the dish they use for serving is a silly shape so barely any of the nachos actually have cheese on them.Very slow service despite the fact that the place was practically empty.Board games kept the kids happy.

The welcome was friendly from George our waiter and the restaurant clean and tidy. Sadly the wine Rose Pinot Grigio we ordered was dreadful/off and this was replaced. The couple next to us had returned it a day earlier. Our meals - gammon and chilli were exceptionally salty and the gammon was over cooked and rather fatty. A shame as we were hoping to dine here again as we are staying in the hotel. We told our waiter and we were offered complimentary coffee which we declined.

We pop in here for a drink from time to time and always like it. We decided to walk in and have a Sunday roast for a change and it didn’t disappoint. One beef roast and one pork and both were perfectly cooked and we both really enjoyed our meal. We even sat outside to finish our drinks as the sun came out.

Nice atmosphere. Very friendly staff but i had lasagne and it was so dry i couldn't finish it. I also thought £13 for a glass of wine a bit pricey.

A really good evening was spent at Alexander's. The staff were excellent, friendly, helpful and polite. Good choice of reasonably priced dishes and the loyalty card was a bonus. Thanks ?

Great service from the start the staff were very friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was lovely. The food was great. The entertainment ( Amy Anderson Walmsley) made the evening with her fantastic voice.
