Fantastic gluten free food. Nearly everything is gluten free. So nice for a coeliac to have such a great choice. We had the pies as it is something rare to get. Really excellent. The staff were great and the chef has a very good knowledge of gluten-free food. Highly recommended

This is a great little café that we stumbled across today on our day trip to Kendal. The cakes are delicious as is the tea to match.
We stopped off here for a spot of brunch and chose a bacon bap, sourdough toast and a toasted teacake.
All were thoroughly delicious and the café has a welcoming atmosphere with super friendly staff.
Highly recommended and we will be returning.

I don't leave 5* reviews very often, but in my opinion this is the best Gluten-Free Chippy in Cumbria (sorry Vinegar Jones). The difference is that the GF batter is homemade, the portions are generous, and the service is welcoming. I visited three times this month. The fish quality is great, the chips are crispy, and they have a GF battered sausage option too. There is a special offer on this that is good value. And if the normal F&C prices seem high, it's because you haven't seen a portion size yet!

This is a lovely bar in the grounds of the Castle Green hotel. The Sea food pizza and ceaser salad were excellent. Bottle of Shiraz wine was a bit pricey, but it was very good! Service was excellent and the manager was very helpful and pro-active with resolving the cloudy beer issue. Thank you. Highly recommended.

Collected 2 pepperoni pizzas, very cheap so wasn't very optimistic but definitely worth it; didn't skimp out on the pepperoni like you see at a lot of takeaways, asked for extra cheese on one of the pizzas and they definitely delivered on that front as well! Upon collection staff were very friendly. Seen lots of reviews about bad delivery (wrong orders .etc.) and other food such as kebabs being bad so can't comment on those things but our experience was very good.

Stopped in here for some food after the long drive up. Totally delicious BLT, followed by Lemon Sponge cake. I can’t remember the last time I had a vegan sponge cake and now, after the cake here, I want that sponge cake everyday. It was so so good and the slice was massive and only £3.50. ? My pals had the poke bowl and the scrambled tofu and a coffee, and they really enjoyed it. Portions are big (which is a good thing).

Lovely place, excellent option to stop on the road and have a delicious meal or dessert. Easy to access from the road, spacious car park and great environment. We loved the food and the pastries, we had the soup of the day with whipped butter and sourdough bread which was amazing! And also the chicken bean bowl was outstanding ?.
The only downside is that we just had a short amount of time to be there and we considered the entry ticket to the gardens a bit too much for a short period. Maybe the entry could be included if you eat there, we would’ve loved to see them.

Small but perfectly delicious little takeaway. Being from the North East Coast you think you have had fabulous fish and chips before, but Far Cross Chippy has beaten them all for me. Never had a bone in my fish and great chips too. Gravy is great and batter (or scraps depending on where you live) are plentiful. Very busy whenever we have been, so there is always a queue, but it is definitely worth the wait.

Total in August 2025 was £13.30
The fish for us was just enough for the two of us, lovely crisp batter and for one would be huge. Small chips likewise (very slightly on the thick side for me but Tina thought they were fine). Mushy peas in a large tub were good and a much bigger helping than we get down south. Overall, very good and would definitely recommend. Sorry we eat everything before thinking about photos.

I honestly don’t understand the volume of negative reviews.
The staff at Kendal McDonald’s are consistently polite, patient, and doing the best they can in a high-pressure, minimum-wage environment.
Yes, orders can occasionally be wrong or food might arrive lukewarm — but this is McDonald’s. It’s fast food, not fine dining. You get what you pay for, and that doesn’t justify the hostility some reviewers direct at staff.
A lot of the complaints seem to forget that these are real people working long shifts while dealing with poor behaviour from the public. Hospitality workers deserve basic respect, and Kendal residents could stand to show a bit more compassion.
I’ve also seen reviews blaming staff for teenagers causing fights or disruptions. Realistically, what do people expect minimum-wage workers to do? Staff regularly ask them to leave and involve the police when necessary, but if your children are starting fights or causing serious issues in McDonald’s, that is not a staff failure — it’s a parenting failure.
Overall, the staff here are hardworking and courteous, and they deserve far more credit than they get.

It's a large space that communicates with the gym next door. There's a wood burner next to the sofa, and tables from which many were working making use of the excellent wifi. Plenty of seating outside, too.

Whilst the room (HARE) was adequate for a couple of nights it needs a few tweaks as follows. The room is hot needs a fan yes you can open the window but road / traffic noise becomes an issue. Plug sockets at least 4 doubles maybe change one for one that has USB charger would be handy. The bathroom whilst very nice could do with some extra additions , robe hooks on the wall / door, a shelf to put wash/ toiletries bag on rather than the floor, anti slip bath mat is essential we had to put one of the hand towels in the bath to prevent my wife from slipping plus a grab rail would be a really good addition if possible. And the shower is not the best it runs off of a mixer tap so pressure is not great and runs hot and cold . These little things would make a huge difference. With reference to our slippery bath as soon as we raised the concern a brand new non slip bath mat was supplied the same day so top marks for that thankyou so despite a couple of minor niggles we would 100% stay again

Myself and my husband stopped in today for an all day breakfast around 3pm while doing some Christmas shopping. This place looked cosy and inviting so we popped in to see if they had space. Luckily they did. We were seated quickly and placed our order at the till. The staff were very friendly and not too attentive which meant we could enjoy each other's company more & of course the food. We both had the big boss breakfast which was so fresh & delicious. Top quality ingredients and perfectly cooked. Great Sunday pick me up! The hot chocolates are also incredible. Highly recommend this lovely small business ?

Been coming here for a long time. Since it was king-size doughnuts, although I don't know if the same people run it. It has been consistently good for all these years. A personal favourite is the chicken roma baguette. Chicken, mayo, mozzarella and little bacon bits. Comes with salad on a fresh baguette. The baguettes are amazing. Crisp in the outside and soft inside. The filling is plentiful and you can just ask for whatever you want in it and they will accommodate. They do hot chicken and stuffing but it does run out. The cheese lattice is very very nice too. Staff are great too. Highly recommend

Played the course today with my son and what a fantastic day we've had. Visited the LakesBrew Ambleside Tap Room last week whilst on holiday and were very impressed. It’s what the town needs - great selection of beers, great atmosphere, friendly staff. Didn’t get chance to try the food by Toast, but it looked amazing. Bought two of their lovely beer glasses when there. We’ll be back!
