Without a doubt the worst hotel we have stayed at and in the past we have stayed in some not so nice places to be kind!On check-in we were allocated room 213 now 213 is where the nightmare starts, on entering the room we were greeted with thick dust, black mold and condensation on the windows, dirty and worn carpet. In the bathroom the mold was all over the shower area and approx a 30cm by 30cm square above the shower area was thick black mold. I spoke with the receptionist and told them I would not be staying in this room and it shouldn't be used for guests. To be fair she apologised, offered another room the 'check' to see if I was happy with that (room 229) to say it was acceptable would be a lie however it would have been a case of refuse and go home (70 mile journey) or accept it which we did (pictures of room uploaded) this room also had thick dust, mouldy tiles and a nice feature filled hole in the door!! The rooms need a complete renovation they are at best 1*standard and I am actually being kind there. The next day we had breakfast with a large Chinese student bus trip so was busy. The staff were unable to cope with how busy it was and I can only describe the service as Fawlty towers type service as it was almost laughable. However on our 2nd day (our last) the service was much better and the breakfast to the hotels credit was good. Alexander's bar is not a bar it's more of an annex for food. We had a pint and a cheese board which was good, staff were friendly however it was very dated and felt cold.Overall I would urge you not to go to this hotel it has no redeeming quality's other than the breakfast! EV CHARGER has been broken for months and not repaired a bit like the hotel that is broken and needs a fair bit of money to bring back up to it's alleged 4* standard. If this is 4* standard in the UK must be centuries old!WE WILL NEVER RETURN!!!!

Lovely hotel, nice room, good breakfast. Only downside was when we arrived at 2.30 our room was not ready and we were told check in was 3 on Sunday. The only information we could find online was check in was from 2. We went to the adjoining pub and came back 40 minutes later to find the room still not ready and another three couples waiting. I would not be put off stopping again but think this needs to be addressed

Rooms: The room was very generous with bed, desk and chair, side chair. Great in room amenities, kettle, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits. Iron and ironing board. The shower was so powerful too.

Stayed for 4 nights at this super clean, comfortable hotel. We also had dinner, which was part of our deal. Dinner was amazing, and breakfast - I've never been anywhere with such a vast choice. Every member of staff was super friendly and so professional. We would stay here again in a heartbeat and most definitely will.

My husband and I spent a wonderful few days at this great hotel, which looks out over Kendal, the gateway to the south east Lakes area. You can be in Windermere in about half an hour. The grounds are attractive and well maintained, with lots of mature trees and shrubs. The restaurant has extensive views over the gardens and across to the ruined castle and the hills beyond. It is easily accessible from the motorway, and about a mile from the town centre. There is ample parking at the hotel, and although we did not require assistance, it appears to be well arranged for those with mobility impairment eg. Blue badge parking spots, ramps and lifts. The staff were all friendly and attentive, with a cheery welcome and helpful attitude. Our room was large and comfortable, and had wonderful views through the wide expanse of windows. The bed was the biggest we've ever slept in! The bathroom was also large and well appointed.Guests have the use of the 10m pool that is part of the in-house health club, as well as the gym and the excellent steam room. The breakfast buffet was extensive, with optional extras that could be made to order. Dietary requirements seemed to be well catered for. We ate dinner in the hotel restaurant a couple of times, and the menu was varied and reasonably priced. In terms of value, we felt that with the health club facilities and included breakfast, that we did get a great deal for what we paid.

Our twin room was spacious and comfortable, with ample storage space and all the amenities. At dinner and breakfast my gluten free requests were met without any problems, restaurant staff and reception staff were friendly and helpful.
