Now known as The Principal, this is a great pub, nicely decorated, lovely photos of old Kendal to enjoy, a fantastic dartboard upstairs, along with some big screen TVs showing sport.I enjoyed myself so much the 1st time I went on that I went back the next day, and not only because I was hoping to see the beautiful woman I was talking with.Tea and toast are available in the morning, and tea cakes all day (I think), and the temporary manager couldn't have been more welcoming, even bringing the toaster back out when I asked for toast at nearly lunchtime. However that is the only food available other than crisps etc, and especially considering the central location of the pub, right on Market Square, I have taken a star off for this, there are other places to eat around it's location, but I think a decent menu would definitely elevate this establishment to a 5 star rating.

Was so exited to go here after it being shut for so many years. Could finally go into the pub that my mum used to work in. We get there and we're turned away for having a dog.Any other pub would have allowed a dog as long as it was on a lead and well behaved, which he would have been.Very disappointed.

They don't food but they have a decent selection of beers etc. The place has only just reopened under new owners as a free house, which means they sell their drinks cheaper than tied pubs. It has been refurbished to a very good standard which makes for a comfortable friendly atmosphere. There is more room upstairs, where you will find a dart board and TVs for watching sports etc.

A pub full of regulars very friendly more than dog friendly " treat better than the humans" as the land Lord said , lol. Food all looks great I had the home cooked 8oz burger and best burger I've had for years absolutely fantastic and cooked to perfection defiantly recommend for anyone passing through the area 100 percent a great place to stop for a bite and fins local knowledge of the areas :) best place I've been in a while loved it

We visited here last year and it was a lovely pub so returned during our visit to Kendal this weekend. We were extremely disappointed. We waited 20 minutes before we were even given a menu. Then, our food arrived 40 minutes later but no sign of our drinks. We had to ask again for them because they'd forgotten them. The meal wasn't great. Gammon was swimming in oil. When we asked for our bill, we were told it was £22 after checking our online banking we had been charged £30... very confusing! My husband went to querie this but whilst waiting in the queue the bar maid kept coughing everywhere which made him feel very uncomfortable expecially when COVID is on the rise again so we just left it. The whole atmosphere in the pub felt miserable and nothing like our last visit. We will be avoiding this place from now on. There are lots of other lovely pubs in Kendal.

Authentic, cosy, amazing food, and polite, friendly staff.

Ordered jacket potatoes... the meals did not reflect the description on the menu - tiny portions, no salad garnish, not homemade toppings as described... clearly supermarket purchased products. Baked cooked for so long they were completely resistant to a knife. Meals ordered were not delivered together, with the order mid-read, and thus missing a meal. Complaint made to the serving staff, not acted upon or discussed at all. Refused to pay for meals which were not eaten. Of the 2 week holiday, the worse pub lunch yet; indeed the worse that I have ever had. Really disappointing.

The perfect pub for a nice pint of well kept ale on a wet and windy day. Friendly landlord and locals. OOPS - reviewed the wrong pub! It was actually a wet and windy evening. and we popped in for a bit to eat. All home cooked. Ales were off unfortunately - new delivery settling in the seller so had to rough it with keg, still well kept though. Landlord was a Yorkshireman and made us feel welcome. Well worth a visit

We travelled to the Lake District from Scotland for a week away. We visited the Globe Inn for some lunch which was brilliant and the gammon steak was the best I've had. There was a lingering smell of damp but would understand that with places being closed for sometime but this would not put us off coming back.

Do not visit here, the staff are extremely rude. I can appreciate that we are in very un certain times at the moment & that the pressure is extremely high. However, the pub was dead (so no excuse for the following!) the woman behind the bar had a very bad attitude, she was extremely rude & was acting like she just purely count be bothered being there... she also used a visor that she didn’t even have covering her face - not very COVID friendly. The man behind the bar, who always used a bandana as a face mask, was extremely rude aswell... I asked if he had a minute to serve me (after waiting around 20mins after our next drink was finished) he made it very obvious that he had ignored me and chose to go out for a cigarette instead! (appreciate everybody is entitled to their breaks but the Ignorance was pure bliss) me & my partner then decided to leave after the service was so shocking. As we was leaving the bar man made a snide, rude, fly comment “was it something I said” - this isn’t me being a Karen in any shape or form. This pub needs to train their staff on basic manners & good standard customer service.
