I was accompanied with a younger lady to myself, although my mother always said “what a young lady looks for in love is a man of weight and years for her to lean on” in fact myself I’m practically in my prime, and for a lady about to disembark from her university education the match seems quite agreeable. But enough of my sordid love affairs this is a detailed review on The Garden Cafe Kendal. Entering the garden cafe I was first delighted by its the location which was just a short walk from the centre of town in a secret and secluded courtyard that took us away from the hustle and bustle of Kendal and allowed us to engage in conversation privately. The decor of this quiet café was described by my companion upon her sitting down as “cozy”. A couple of intimate friendly tables for two and some larger tables which might accommodate a whole family. Art hanging upon the walls and greenery on tables and shelves, which I failed to identify in the moments conversation paused. The menu written upon a large blackboard behind the concierge was detailed and expansive, I must remark on the excellent value for money all the dishes would present. In the end, our order became somewhat complicated as we decided to have the vegetarian burger, but wished to replace our French fries with a Salt-N-Pepa variant. The patient and knowledgeable staff member taking our order treated this with the care and accommodation the matter required. The food came on a large plate with a healthy supply of our favourite condiment. We ordered a pot of tea to share between us which continued to pour even after several cups full of tea. The meal was excellent, of the highest quality indeed. I would remark it is to become one of my favourite restaurants in the whole of Kendal and for the price seemed infinitely competitive with garish High Street fast food chains. To end this brief story of love, refection on reflection the garden cafe excellent I look forward to the next encounter. And the young lady in question may deserve another mention.

Absolutely DELICIOUS and creative vegan food. I cant enough of the vegan goats cheese and vegan salmon salad. Omg insanely tasty! Fab chai latte and scrumptious cakes. Wouldn't eat anywhere else in Kendal now I've found this spot!

Found this little gem of a vegan cafe in Kendal next to Quaker museum (opposite Aga shop) it was an absolute delight, great atmosphere, clean and very friendly. My husband and I chose the BLT brioche bun and it’s was delicious!!! Also chose a side of scrambled tofu.. yum yum. With a nice coffee (Farrer’s) not the bitter roast that is normally served nowadays but a mellow smooth coffee roast with oat milk.. we will definitely be back and worth the journey!

I have been on a plant based wholefood diet for nearly 3 years for health reasons. This includes no added oil either as an ingredient, nor for cooking. We phoned the cafe in the morning to ask if they could cater for me at lunch. While the oil free requirement was outside their usual menu options, the owner was incredibly helpful. She made a special meal from scratch for 3 of us that not only met our needs, but also tasted delicious. This is the first time I have asked a venue to cater for me, so being able to eat out again with family was very special. We enjoyed the ambience and the pleasantness of all the staff. Thank you. We shall return the next time we are in the area, but give you a bit more notice!

Delightful cafe in a tranquil setting, even though it's just off a busy thoroughfare. Delicious food; I'm not vegan but had a lovely meal. We've been in the Lake District for 10 days and this was probably the best food we've had so far.

The food here is excellent. All plant based menu. Salad, soups or good old burger and chips. Everything is fresh and homemade. Vegan salmon salad is excellent. The only downside is that it'ssmall and getting a table can be difficult at busier times.

We went for lunch here today and the soup was delicious. It's a nice quiet cafe tucked away from the main road and there's seating outside for sunny days like today.

Really pretty cafe inside the courtyard for the Quaker museum, service was quick and the food was really delicious. Pictured was the mock salmon salad, which had a very realistic texture and taste, and the overall salad composition was very well thought out. Had some cakes afterwards which were also delicious, highly recommended!Vegetarian options: The whole menu is vegan with lots of choices for lighter or more substantial dishes

I'm so glad I found this little gem. The food was delicious! I ordered banana pancakes with maple syrup and a hot chocolate and the portions were very generous and satisfying. There was a really good selection on the menu and the staff were very helpful and friendly.

Best vegan smoked salmon I ever tasted! Would visit Kendal again just to eat here again, the goats 'cheese' and vegan salmon salad was to die for! Right next to the museum which is fab too, great coffee and burger we had too. So so good! Do try it here
