You MUST go here... Absolutely ? on assisting us when we couldn't travel to Millom in the heavy snow, abandoning the car by the main road, we enquired with a few other similarly stranded for a meal and board and to the staffs credit (lovely bar lady) they sorted a cosy single for me my partner ? the food was a Lamb Stew with chips and the Cider on tap was awesome...Great meal! people were friendly and helpful too...next day they opened at 12 noon, and we ate a hearty sliced roast tender Beef lunch with roasts and yorky pud, and cauliflower cheese, rustic veg and pumpkin mash all seperates and served hot, lovely gravy..anc horseradishcondiment....it's well worth going and we'll be stopping there more often in the future on our way to our place in Millom....Well done, The Farmers Arms!

This pub is fantastic on all fronts. Lovely, well kept, and very clean. It has a lovely atmosphere catering for all ages and is dog friendly. The menu , offered weekly, focuses on locally produced food, including venison from Grizedale and beef from adjoining farms. There is a good choice for persons with allergies or vegan by choice.

We had the first Sunday roast which came as a 2 course meal the staff are trying out for the near future. The food was delicious and reasonably priced at £26 per head. As always the staff are so efficient and pleasant. We hope that future Sunday openings do occur and we will certainly return.

Absolutely brilliant! The food is very tasty (we tried focaccia, grilled greens and kale), the IPA is out of this world, the prices are right, and the view from the garden is peaceful!

Didn't live up. Somewhere I have wanted to visit for a longtime. Sadly if you don't look a certain way you won't be welcome. The pub is very Arts / liberal and if you dress differently or come across as not like this YOU ARE NOT WELCOME. They ignore you and honestly I don't think they want locals, or working people in here. I am someone who works in the arts but maybe don't look enough like I would fit in with them, we went in, we were ignored and when we went to the bar the staff didn't say hello. They served others first and carried on ignoring us. One good thing is you can take dogs inside. We had booked a table for two and this hadn't been reserved for us. The food was made by artists chefs but it wasn't edible. Really hard to chew and not fit for purpose. This is somewhere I wanted to visit for so long and somewhere I was so excited about but sadly just don't think many are "the right" kind of person. It's important to note they also receive public money sop not only as business but maybe shouldn't be treating people this way. It's awful to be honest.

Such a surprising change and all for the better. I used to come to the Farmers Arms in its old guise which was good. Remembered about it today and had a fantastic experience. Great staff, good and tasty local beer, great interesting menu and quirky decor. Will definitely be back.Kid-friendliness: Great place for kids. The juke box is amazing with nice old school American soul.Dietary restrictions: Caters for intolerances/allergies but worth checking when ordering. Coped well for the person in our party with allergies.

Amazing! What a beautiful pub. We sat outside in the sun looking at the beautiful mountains. Service very quick and very friendly. Food tasted amazing and it’s great to see the fresh grown veg and salad from their own veg garden on the plate. Chips also tasted unreal! Can highly recommended!

Utterly brilliant entertainment tonight from Reuben Tighe and Julie. Plus great pizzas - I'm vegan and I had several choices.

We came here for lunch last week — and more — and had a great time. We already knew about the place because of its relationship to Grizedale Arts, a wonderful organisation which puts the building of sustainable local communities at its heart, and so were keen to visit on our family holiday. The menu ranges from more unusual items to 'standard pub food' such as burgers and chips, but these were far from standard — high-quality local produce, and well-prepared. (You can see some of the produce growing in the fields out back.) There were also nice — and delicious — touches such as the home-made stout vinegar; by far the best family meal we had in the Lakes. After lunch the kids joined in the drop-in clay workshop where they made buildings for what will be the model village out the back. This is a wonderful facility for the local community and for those — like us — just passing through. This is where they also make the crockery used in the pub and cafe, and you can buy your own in the honesty shop which joins the cafe to the pottery workshop; we left with quite a few things, including a casserole, bowls, and soap dishes. After that, we settled down with a nice pot of tea — in one of the home-made pots — and I had a delicious rhubard and custard slice, which really perked my up for the winding drive back. The place has been fully renovated, and features a wide variety of pictures and furniture, from locally carved antiques to newly made pieces from a number of artists; the wall-coverings also refer to smocking on old labourers' work clothes. This is a place in which you can happily spend all day, eating, drinking, making things, eating again, walking around the garden, or relaxing and reading one of the books or magazines lying around. And you can stay here, too, if you'd like to spend all night here as well as all day. Pubs have historically been at the heart of the community, and The Farmers Arms is a model of what that might mean now, and in a place in which community is made up of people who are steeped in the place, and those who are just driving through. There's no doubt we'll be visiting again when we next come to the Lakes and, indeed, this has become a new reason to come. I cannot recommend this place more highly.

Amazing! The best pub burgers we’ve ever had, with meat from the farm next door. Chips were really good. 100% recommend!
