Crispy Chicken fillet strips turned out to be 5 chicken nuggets. Garlic mushrooms on toast was a bowl of gloop - similar to gone cold gravy with no sign of mushrooms. (See picture) Shocking

The most friendly pub I have visited. Food was great, staff friendly, great communal atmosphere. We will definitely be back!!

Great little pub serving locals and tourists alike at down to earth prices. Like many rural pubs you wonder how they can keep going, especially through the winter, but we're really pleased they do.

Traditional country pub. We've visited here numerous times over the past couple of years. Always a warm welcome and great food. We'll supported by the locals with quiz nights and charity events.

Just arrived in the area today. Wanted to go local for our first dinner. This place had 4 1/2 stars on trip advisor so thought why not!!! For a Saturday night not that busy.. that should have given us a warning!! We sat on one table but ended up moving due to so many flies !! We ordered starters- chicken goujons- bland. The dipping sauce was gloopy! Also had deep fried halloumi- this had the same gloopy mix but was much nicer!! Main two Gammons and one steak pie….. where do I start!! Gammon- hard fried eggs and 1/2 portion Gammon and chips! Both very over cooked Steak pie - not sure how you can mess up a pie but they succeeded. Massively over cooked and chips were rock hard. There was gravy. I did smell mint from it but got no flavour!! Pastry was tough as boots. Think the cook was attempting a water crust pastry but failed!! Catastrophically…. I would love to say the service was good but the guy behind the bar seemed to be more interested in his phone, so we were not once asked if it was ok or if we wanted more drinks!! The price was ridiculously high. £75 for 2 starters and three terrible mains!! My only advice is RUN!! There has to be better out there. Close Is not always better!!!

Recently stayed in Ireby and this little gem made our week. Open every night but Monday, we ate 4 or five times and must say the food was a delight and just how pub food should be. Nothing was a bother for the bar or kitchen staff and the locals welcomed us with open arms. Gets busy over the weekends and has lovely atmosphere.

Portion size very small like a school dinner.

We visited this pub, whilst staying at emilys place (apartment above the pub) the apartment was basic but lovely and had everything thing we needed for our short stay. The pub is quaint fits in with the small village and has a lovely atmosphere of the locals, but for me they wasn't much choice for food on the menu and somethings that one of my family members wanted wasn't available, so very little choices. The food we chose was nice and looked good, the portions were good sizes. The only thing that put me off is that they were alot of flies in the pub especially around the food which, for me been in the catering industry definitely put me off, i felt like I needed to eat quick to get away from the flies, I understand that it's a farming area.
