Great food and super friendly. Talk nicely to the owners and you’ll be offered the most amazing Paneer dishes that aren’t on the menu! It’s become a regular for us.

We ordered a takeaway as we were staying nearby. It arrived on time and right to our lodge at Sandybrook. The food was excellent and the best we have ever had. The food was delivered still hot and the food tasted so fresh and very authentic. Would definitely recommend Star Anise to others.

I haven’t seen here for ten years so my expectations were mediocre however they were quickly surpassed, everything was great including the price. We will definitely return to this little gem ! Well done to the team you do a really great job!Vegetarian options: The manage made things that weren’t even on the menu - they were all excellent

Exellent Take away from this place, we ordered around 6pm to be delivered at 8.00pm and it arrived promptly and still nice and hot We all ordered something different and I must say we enjoyed each and every mouthful. The food was tasty and well prepared and presented with lots of different flavours to enjoy. We are only visiting sadly otherwise this would be one of our ‘go to’ restaurants to eat in!

This was one of the most delicious curries our family has ever had. The four of us enjoyed every bite. The resturant is nicely decorate and so delicious it felt like we were enjoying a home cooked meal at someone's house. The owner was incredibly attentive and the service outstanding even through the place was packed and very busy. It was BYOB and the wine from across the street paired (and was priced!) wonderfully. We started with poppdoms, crisp and light, paired with a variety of sauces (the green was outstanding). The peshwari naan is to die for as well as the garlic mushroom puri. The dish-of-the-night was the Chicken TIki Falahar (coconut, almonds, mixed fruit), unbelieveably delicious. To top it off it was incredibly affordable. This will be our go to place and one of the best in Ashbourne.

Obviously a bad night at the Star Anise. Ordered 2 meals at 18:51, app said delivery by 20:07, arrived 20:45. Lamb Rogan Josh was bland and tasteless, more like a lamb stew. The King Prawn Byriani was very dry with a reasonable taste, however the prawns tasted unfresh and we're very rubbery, didn't eat any after the first. The onion bhaji was the only positive on the order. Tried calling them but the phone was engaged constantly. Gave up after 4 attempts.Won't be using them again.

Stopped off here for dinner. Our curry (vegetable masala) had an unnaturally red colour to it, probably a result of too much food colouring. We ate it, but both suffered insomnia that night. Red colouring causes hyperactivity, and we suspect it was the cause of our sleeplessness. The saag paneer, naan bread and rice were okay, however, my husband complained that the brinjal bhaji had raw spices. Our main issue with this restaurant was the service. One waiter got our order wrong. The other waiter tried to clear our plates while we were waiting for a side dish to arrive. The worst part was the bill. We were being overcharged and we asked for it to be redone. Then we noticed that they'd left out our drinks on the updated bill, so got the bill corrected again. Finally, the third version of the bill arrived and the lady plonked the card machine right on top of the bill so I couldn't check it. Turned out she had still overcharged us by 90p, but I was losing the will to live by this stage and just paid up and escaped.

Lovely very varied menu, and attentive staff. I like the fish and lamb dishes here. We live locally, and go often.
