Market Place Fish & Chip Restaurant ASHBOURNE
7 Market Pl, Market Place, AshbourneWe originally planned to go to a pub for tea but spotted this little hidden restaurant as we passed by and changed our mind! Really fast service for a reasonable price, felt like we were by the seaside even this far in land. It was also really nice to be able to sit inside while we ate without a long wait for a table. The Little Shed
1 King Edward St, AshbourneVery delicious and well filled Wiltshire ham, cheddar and wild mushroom toastie. Potato fried were perfectly made - crispy outer, soft inner. All tasted extremely fresh. Coffees were also great, flavourful. Relaxing ambience with oldies playing in the background, unique wooden decor with a light and airy feel inside, chairs very light so easy to move. Cakes also buttery and excellent, had the Berry and Vic Sponge.

The Bridge
33-35 Dig St, AshbourneHad a walk through Ashbourne and came across The Bridge which is part of the Marstons company. We had dinner here and the service was very good. The tables were all clean and as it was a Monday it wasn't very busy.We had two mains of the burger with cheese and bacon, this came quickly and was very tasty and was a job to finish it all. Home made coleslaw, onion rings and chips. Everything about it was great and would definitely recommend it if you're feeling hungry. We also had the mince and onion pie again this was of the same size portion. The pie was served on a big bed of mashed potato and a generous portion of green peas. Also had a large gravy boat if you wanted to add this. The pastry was very tasty and buttery and not dry like some other places. Again a good size portion. We wanted dessert but after these we had to admit defeat and go without. Maybe next time we'll have room.

The George at Alstonefield
1 church lane, Alstonefield, AshbourneLovely establishment in the beautiful village of Alstonefield within the Peak District. The building itself is one of charm and delightful quirkiness offering a true sense of history. A dog friendly bar area and restaurant are separated by an entrance hallway and tastefully decorated to suit. Low ceilings bring out the sense of stepping back in time and being part of the history whilst enjoying modern day culinary comforts. Genuine gem of the Peak District and well worth a visit!

Benny's Pizza & Kebab House
21 Compton St, AshbourneLove this place. It’s my go to for a local pizza. A medium sized pizza and a can of coke costs less than £10, so I think the price is good. You can watch them make it if you wish and if you request collection, it takes about 15-20mins. The pizzas are really nice and mostly consistent, even when they aren’t, they are still nice. It’s a takeaway style pizza.

The Ashbourne Gingerbread Shop
26 St John St, Market Place, AshbourneLovely little cafe and bakery, lots of fresh bread and cakes in the bakery. We went for breakfast in the cafe and had the all day breakfast. Everything was really nice, the bacon and sausages were really high quality, butter with the toast was excellent, what let it down was the eggs had been precooked and left under a hot plate so were dry.The menu is limited but a good selection, they have pies and pasties in the bakery that can be combined to make a meal. There is a good variety of sandwiches/rolls to take away.

The Red Lion At Kniveton
The Red Lion At Kniveton, Main Street, Kniveton, AshbourneWe decided to try the Red Lion for an impromptu evening out. Even though it’s only 10 minutes away from where we live, we hadn’t tried it before. A big mistake on our part! It is a very clean, welcoming country pub, serving fresh, well prepared and tasty food. The serving staff are excellent, with nothing being too much trouble. Would I recommend it? Absolutely! We can’t turn the clock back but we will definitely be back! PS The cider is particularly good also.

Café Impromptu
14 Church St, AshbourneVisited here for the first time with my little pooch - the place is very dog-friendly (giving him a blanket and water), and all the staff were very accommodating to my several dietary restrictions. I had an adapted version of the full english breakfast and ploughman's salad - everything was perfectly cooked/prepared, and you could tell the ingredients were fresh and of good quality. Will certianly be back when I can, and would highly recommend visiting here, especially if you have a dog!Dietary restrictions: coeliac / celiac disease, nut allergy, shellfish allergy

Lamplight Restaurant Ltd
4 Victoria Sq, Market Place, AshbourneWalked in without a reservation the Saturday before Valentine's Day (yes, I know) and we were lucky enough to get their last table! So pleased because it's a lovely environment in which to dine. The wine selection is good, the room is cosy, service is helpful and friendly and both our meals were very good. Poached & roasted chicken breast was excellent and the sea bass was apparently also extremely good. It'd been many years since I'd been in before but I will definitely make sure it's not long before we go back. Recommended!

Wildhive Callow Hall
Mappleton Rd, AshbourneWildhive Callow Hall is an attractive Victorian country house hotel with a particularly impressive modern glazed dining area. The place has an air of style and is quite eclectic. Lunch was generally good and the service attentive. The grounds are stunning and on a sunny day the bucolic panoramic views are superb. The unsurfaced car park a short walk down the drive from the hotel was somewhat muddy.
