“On a very wet day I called in for coffee. Never having been here before I had some difficulty finding the door, which is rather concealed. There are four short flights of stairs to the cafe, which makes it a pleasantly calm place free of the usual clutter of prams that plague so many cafés today. The service is excellent and the coffee excellent. There's a comprehensive menu to suit the majorit, unfortunately I can't eat in these places because like Jordan Peterson, I discovered that most foods cause inflammation diseases in me. I would have been happy to spend more time there but Bakewell has some serious problems on the parking front, and the roads are permanently jammed with traffic. Anyway this is a pleasantl venue as are the staff.Further to my review yesterday, I must add that I have been to most of the cafés in Bakewell over the last few months. I have concluded that the Upstairs Cafe is definitely the best and serves the best coffee by far.Parking: Bakewell is a very difficult place to find parking and the traffic crawls through the place at any hour. Most of the parking bays are far too narrow and people tend to drive such big vehicles that they can't really handle. You therefore see people trying to direct the hapless motorists into position.”

“It's been one place we've had on our to do list for a while and just managed to get ourselves there for one of the final days before it closes over the Winter months. We visit a lot of places with our English Heritage and National Trust memberships, so we have a good feel for historical places and buildings. There is plenty of dedicated parking associated to the Hall that's not too far away 5-10mins walk, but that is the only place really to park. The visit, although in winter was lovely, the sun was shining, so we were able to wander around the gardens, which are well maintained. The Long Gallery, Chapel, and the Great Hall are all beautiful examples of the Tudor period and are very well refurbished and presented. The staff were helpful and friendly, and the lady giving the guided tour of the Chapel was excellent. I did feel that at some points it was a little bit lacking in maybe descriptive literature to engage you in the environment of each room (kitchen area mainly), and maybe due to the season and time of year the staff seemed busy on managerial work rather than being around to answer questions in particular rooms. However, when they were, the information they provided was good. For the size of the place, you felt you are only seeing half of the Hall, which makes you feel like you are missing out on something. However, I suppose you have to understand it's a working, livable space as well. The cafe/restaurant was in a separate outbuilding up a flight of stairs before your entered the main gates of the Hall. It is well presented and great for hot food with some nice choices and variation on the menu. However, we just had Tea and Cake, again lovely selection to choose from. Staff friendly and helpful. The little museum showing found artefacts during the refurbishment was a very interesting section on the look around. Overall would recommend a visit”

“Great carvery, paid at the bar then got a voucher to go into the carvery and be served at the counter. Portions are very generous and the food quality is top notch! Probably the best roast dinner we’ve ever had out! Value was quality too at £13.95 per adult carvery. Did get busy from 12:30 onwards so worth booking to avoid missing out. Nice family run business!”

“The most beautiful, picturesque courtyard! Me and my grandma enjoyed our lunch and some drinks sat here. Quick service, amazing food and felt like we were sat in Italy with the sun on our faces. The perfect summer spot. We have attended a pizza night with a singer too. Best pizza I have ever eaten!!”

“A gem of a place we stumbles across by sheer luck with some amazing choices of sausage which were to die for. Some may say a little pricey, but I disagree as these are not off the shelf sausage sandwich options so are worth every penny!Excellent and friendly service which has guaranteed we will return again.”

“Parked here for the Monsal Trail. Excellent place to start the walk. Large car park with plenty spaces. The cafe has seating indoor and outdoor. Good menu selection. We visited on a damp Sunday afternoon and it was still buzzing with people. Woodfire pizza van also on the day we visited. Would definitely visit again.”
