Friendly staff who were swift and polite, food was very nice. Would have liked a few more ales on offer instead of the trendy lagers with it being a pub in the Derbyshire Peak District. The restaurant felt to posh for us after we had walked a mile or two to get there in our walking gear. The bar area would accommodate the walkers and ramblers with dogs if it was a bit more rustic instead of having carpeted areas, I felt guilty walking on it! Overall a good pub and meal, southern fried chicken was crunchy and juicy yummy

When we arrived we thought some of the negative reviews were probably a little unfair, until that is we sat down for dinner, how disappointing, a very average starter of smoked salmon and a pate dish which was 2/10 at best!We ordered the short rib which was 80% fat with a few vegetables and a Yorkshire pudding not great for £23.50, we didn’t bother with pudding as clearly from what I could see it would be more of the same! I see from other reviews we are not the only ones who have had a similar experience, stock response from management on anything negative!I understand the pub is under new management, well I would say they must try a lot harder, perhaps though because you probably have a captive audience in Baslow you don’t have to try very hard, seems a terrible waste though!I wonder what breakfast will be like………!!Watch this space!

The Sunday roast was really average. They only serve the beef med well (it came well done) and the beef rib was so small it made a mockery of the £22 price point. Roast potatoes were also under done.We wouldn't go back.

Food and service excellent. Very accommodating with food preferences. New owners need to refurbish. Curtains, furnishings etc really dirty.

Portions of food were very small for the cost. 3 chicken wings for £8. the sausage and mash was 3 mediocre sausages and the tiniest portion of mash I have ever seen, if they can’t get this right then doubtful for the rest. The service was good and the staff friendly but they are obviously saving money by making such small portions. We are staying at the camping and motor home campsite and this was convenient but not worth the money. Drinks are pricey too £12.60 for 2 pints, one of Moretti and one of IPA.

Very friendly staff, good atmosphere. Food quite good, although slow to come out of the kitchen. Only downside for me is there are too many dogs.
