On a very wet day I called in for coffee. Never having been here before I had some difficulty finding the door, which is rather concealed. There are four short flights of stairs to the cafe, which makes it a pleasantly calm place free of the usual clutter of prams that plague so many cafés today. The service is excellent and the coffee excellent. There's a comprehensive menu to suit the majorit, unfortunately I can't eat in these places because like Jordan Peterson, I discovered that most foods cause inflammation diseases in me. I would have been happy to spend more time there but Bakewell has some serious problems on the parking front, and the roads are permanently jammed with traffic. Anyway this is a pleasantl venue as are the staff.Further to my review yesterday, I must add that I have been to most of the cafés in Bakewell over the last few months. I have concluded that the Upstairs Cafe is definitely the best and serves the best coffee by far.Parking: Bakewell is a very difficult place to find parking and the traffic crawls through the place at any hour. Most of the parking bays are far too narrow and people tend to drive such big vehicles that they can't really handle. You therefore see people trying to direct the hapless motorists into position.

The cafe was almost empty when we visited with only one other table occupied but in fairness it was late-ish on in the day. We were warmly welcomed by the proprietor and were served promptly and efficiently by friendly staff. I was only in the mood for a coffee but the soup (tomato and red pepper) and a scone were also ordered. The soup in particular was delicious by all accounts! A very comprehensive menu to choose from and perhaps somewhere to return to a bit earlier in the day to try some of the lunchtime offerings. The owner was extremely pleasant and enthusiastic and full of chat and banter which added to the experience. Reasonable value for money too. Overall a good choice for a light lunch / coffee in Bakewell.

Visited Bakewell on a rather wet Wednesday morning. Having had a wonder round the town found some cafes closed but came across the Upstairs Cafe, what a find. It was lovely, quiet, cosy and comfortable with wonderful friendly staff. I had a latte and hubby had one of their real chocolate hot chocolates and we shared a large slice of millionaires shortbread. My husband could not stop raving about his dark hot chocolate, coffee and cake were also delicious. It is obviously popular, it was getting very busy just before we left. Very good value for money.

Visited Bakewell, Derbyshire for the day and found this lovely place for lunch. The steak pie and the chicken pie were filled with meat and accompanied by vegetables that were cooked with perfection. The big bonus was it’s dog friendly. Would highly recommend

Came here as a group of 3. Food came out quickly and was acceptable for what it was and reasonably priced. The service was also friendly and we were served quickly. The only thing I would say is the place needs totally re decorating. Chipped paint on the walls etc is not a good look and made the place feel grubby. The toilet was also grim looking and again needed an upgrade. Probably wouldn't come here again because of this but this is personal choice only.
