Very much a local pub and busy which is always a good sign to me! Everyone is friendly though and service with a smile by the staff. Dog friendly with regular beer changes at very decent prices.

Lovely old fashioned local. Decent beer, no Sky Sports (I like football, but not ALL the time). Low key and friendly. Often live acoustic folk music (like being in Irish tourism advert sometimes). Especially Mon/Tue but often someone drops by and plays a mandolin etc, not for a show, just because. No food except well priced bar snacks. Little "garden" that's a sun trap in summer. No wow factor, but it will work its way into your heart.

Excellent as usual. Never expect anything other.

What a fabulous bar... proper old school pub.Impromptu musical get together (Monday night) so good. Bit if an Irish vibe pub going off.Real fire.Great choice of ciders available. Beer nice. Well kept.Really friendly customers. Dominoes... darts... Dog friendly. Nice smoking area.Friendly guy behind the bar. It's a 10 from me.

Nice pub, good beers, could have done with a few zero alcohol beers, but that's just because I'm doing dry January

Lovely pub reminiscent of how pubs used to be. Good beer, at a fair price.

At the junction of Swinney Lane and Chesterfield Rd, this traditional pub lies just a few minutes walk from the centre of Belper. We were impressed from the outset by this cozy boozer, the entrance being on the Chesterfield Rd side. Four hand pumps were on, we tried three and all were in tip top condition. The landlady knows her beer and clearly maintains a high standard, in their freshest condition they were all hard to stop drinking. Moderate background music did not intrude over the chat of loyal regulars whose dogs are welcomed. To the rear of the bar is a larger seating area with leather sofas, and the outside covered decking area has some beautiful hillside views. Clean throughout including toilets, this is a well kept real ale pub which we really could not fault.

Another lovely early evening in the Thorn Tree. Warm sunny day so grabbed a couple of tall chairs and sat in the beer garden, looking at the fabulous view and drinking great beer, perfect!

Stopped off here for a pint after a walk from Ambergate. Ended up staying for 4! A combination of top quality beer, a lovely landlady and super friendly regulars made it really difficult to leave. We'll be back very soo.
