It's a Wetherspoon, so you know what to expect. The food, however, was slightly worse than at the average Wetherspoon.

Tried to book a table for family and was told you can't book tables unless it's for daycare patient bookings, yet we were in last week with tables reserved for "the knitting club"?, is that daycare?, please advise!

Went tonight 27/12/2023 for a nice cheap family meal, x2 adults x2 16 year olds Ordered food no problem, my son 16 fancy an alcoholic drink, The law states that under 18s can have a drink with a meal and with an adult over the age of 18..(47). Then it started.. A rude member of staff came over asking for his ID, this was after all food, drinks had been brought to the table and towards the end of our meals. I explained our side, to which I was told its not JDW policy, I apologised and took the drink off my son.. I thought that was the end of it. At the end of the meal which was OK, my daughter wanted a glass of milk. We were refused the 70p glass because of "the alcohol incident" My partner went to talk to the manager (a short young bloke) who was hiding behind his bar staff and wasn't confident.. The alcholic drink we ordered was a VK blue, my partner was told that we broke the law because the law states, beer, cider, wine to which VK is neither, therefor we can't have the milk... Jeez I get rules but come on.. I think some staff training is desperately needed. Merry Christmas ?

One of my favourite Weather spoons, good atmosphere, friendly staff, like the burgers but love the curries. Regular tea and a beer on a Friday with the family to start the weekend, plus, as a bonus, all our cycle club rides tend to start and finish here.

Returned with the grandchildren after visiting Bolsover Castle 23/09/23 , The Pillar Of Rock did not have the soft drinks ordered as they had run out of stock, Bar Lady was wonderful then it quickly went downhill. Cutlery was filthy with food stuck to the 3 Knives, I ordered extra Chicken breast for my Pizza when it was served I asked is that it 8 or 9 small pulled chicken pieces, the waitress said I will go get you some more only for the manager to return to ask your not happy with the chicken on your pizza I'm told (or similar words) No the portion is ridicules I said, he reply that is half of one chicken breast, I replied well it must have been a very small chicken then, manager replied well that is a portion, I replied well there was far more on the pizza when we called in 3 weeks ago, He replied well that it, I replied well I will put my comments in writing then to be told well that is up to you and walked off, towards the end my Pizza was gritty goodness knows what was in it then my wife found a hair attached to a chip picking chip up by the hair, Oh dear, Grandsons Pizza was overdone dry and tough and he could not finish it, The wife later in the night who had ordered the Vegetarian Katsu Curry was ill and for the most of the following day. NO it is Not a clean place to eat and we will certainly Not Return Ever, Derby / Buxton Ilkeston all great as many others but the Pillar of Rock is Disgraceful all around.

We sat outside in NON SMOKING area .. people was smoking ,even though there’s a place to smoke round the other side and no staff told them , to me it’s a health hazard to people who look after themselves.. this really needs addressing.. as they take no notice of the no smoking area !
