I went with my 2 autistic sons. We ordered a PLAIN burger, a child's Sunday dinner (though this was still the same size as an adults, minus 1 roast potato) and an adults roast dinner. Waited over half an hour for the meal to arrive luke warm, and tasteless. The burger came out with tomato, lettuce and sauce on the cob. I sent it back asking again for a plain burger, it then came back with the burger AND the sauce, sent it back again, only for it to come back as a plain BURNT burger..! Apparently the child's roast dinner couldn't be made smaller as it was literally half a roast chicken- so therefore not really a child size portion. I ordered 2 pints iced water and a pint of soda water, all to come out as half pints. No-one asked if the meal was OK, not during the meal or when we paid. The table was set for 4 people but was only big enough for 2 people, very cramped for 3 people. The dining area was small for dining in. No atmosphere. The waitress was pleasant enough but overall, a disaster. We won't be going back and I definitely wouldn't recommend it. Paid good money for very below par food.I also notice that the majority of negative reviews don't get any kind of response..!! Says alot about the place. You need to own these negative reviews as they're just as important as the positive reviews..!

Lovely old pub, tastefully refurbished inside. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Prices were reasonable, and the food was excellent.

Six weeks ago I made a telephone booking for 7 people for Sunday lunch. On arrival,I was informed booking not been written down and they were fully booked had to go elsewhere. Yesterday I booked for Sunday lunch for 7 on line. Yet again there was no record of my booking but could eat outside, we left never to return. Please get your booking system sorted before you loose more customers.

Only been twice first time booked by phone,on arrival no table available, 2nd time booked by internet ,had a booking confirmed notice on my phone, and guess what, onarrival no table. No apology. Never going here again.

Booked Sunday lunch for 7 on line, on arrival no record of my booking. Same thing happened a few weeks ago. On both occasions we had to go elsewhere for lunch. Food might be good but customer service is shocking, sort it out before you loose anymore customers

Absolutely fabulous restaurant. We visited here with some friends so there was a table of 7 of us (including a toddler!) and both the food and service was great. My husband is gluten free (coeliac) and often pub food isn't an option for us, but the Barley Mow Inn had a great selection of foods he could eat, including a Chocolate Brownie Sundae for dessert! Our server was also gluten free so my husband felt confident eating here.We would definitely return if in the area again :)Kid-friendliness: Staff were great with my 2 year old and the kids menu was standard kids pub food so my little one loved it.Dietary restrictions: Great for those with allergies - coeliac was catered for perfectly!

Great pub, good atmosphere. Really hope it continues to flourish. There's been a change of owner and the interior decor has suffered a bit, looks a bit cheap. Also, the Neck oil tastes weird - too perfumed. Aside from that, its smashing.

Absolutely gorgeous food! From what we have been told the owners have changed so if there’s any negative reviews - ignore them because the place, the food & staff are wonderful ?P.s fish and chips are to die for

We have eaten here in the past as this is our local pub.. it has always been really good home cooked food and great service.. Food now is shocking… not sure they understand what they even have on the menu.. to be fair to the waitresses they did a good job but the cook deffo needs to go back to learning how to cook… mules marinier was proper discussing… deep fried muscles… dripping with oil, I could not even eat 1 ? Ciabatta loaf was just of a slice of bread Garlic bread was a simple a slice of bread with some rank butter on with hefty chunks of garlic garlic mushroom that had never see any garlic, steak that you needed a chainsaw to cut…. Chicken burger was ok but not for £13.00… I would rather of gone to Maccies.. On a positive, the onion rings were quite nice….. oh and your starters come with your main meal too!!! What a shambles.. been my local pub for 6 years but I shall not be returning anytime whilst it’s under this management/ownership.

Just had lunch at the recently reopened Barley Mow in Wingerworth. It's my local but I stopped using it when the last owners were in as it had lost all its character, it was shut half the time and the food was very average for the price. The new owners who live locally have really out some effort in by re-extending the opening times and smartened it up both inside and outside. With a new decking area currently being built. It was fishy Friday so both me and my wife went for the £10 offer and the fish was lovely! Crisp light batter accompanied by skin on chips (I prefer off but they were still very good) mushy peas and homemade tartre sauce. All fresh not frozen and very nice too. Main menus a bit limited but I understand they are looking at extending it. Excellent pub grub, so we will definitely be going back. The Timmy Taylor's was top notch too...
