Gastropubs in Chesterfield

“I'm 49 and recall my grandparents' Sunday roasts of the 70s. The food here is so good it reminds me of my childhood. Plus it's a warm, cosy pub with real ales and that rare thing, good service. I almost want to keep it a secret.

7 of us went for Sunday lunch. Everyone absolutely delighted with their food. But above that, they get the service right and for what you get, it's cracking value for money.
Beautiful Chatsworth beers and lovely rioja wine: faultless.

Unfortunately, this visit merited a complaint which I hope I offered without malice or animosity. It felt like a different pub from the one in which I based my initial 5 star review (and my family have visited numerous times and enjoyed 5 star service up to now).
We waited 50 minutes for the food. We requested a Yorkshire pudding be replaced as it was burned. The young lad said he would deal with this but didn't. Whilst we made this point, it should have been evident that there were empty glasses on the table.
We were not asked if we had any allergies when ordering. When food was delivered, no one followed up to ask if everything was alright.
These might seem minor affairs but the Fox And Goose has hitherto been untouchable for both food and service.
Hopefully just a dip and not a case of an overall drop in standards.”

“Went on Sunday unfortunately didnt pre book so no available tables in the main building but plenty of outdoor tables and some tables available in the stable bar. Main menu had lots of choice but decided to order something from the specials menu, steak & stilton pie with proper chips & mushy peas and it was delicious. We even had room to share a pudding and again it was lovely. Service and the staff were excellent and would recommend a visit. Price wise not too bad, although puddings are abit pricey. Plenty of parking although it was quiet busy.”
