Very good food and the staff are very friendly and helpful sometimes the upstairs can be a bit cold so try and find a table downstairs.

Myself and my partner decided to try this cafe as a new venture. We visited on a Sunday at around lunch time, and it was very busy. We didn’t mind waiting, however staff didn’t seem to be making any extra effort to get the queue down quickly. They have seating inside, upstairs and outside but as weather wasn’t great we wanted to sit inside. We saw there was one free table however wasn’t sure if we had to wait to be seated, and out of curtesy for the person in-front of us we wanted to wait to see if they wanted to take said table. Rather than telling us we could go and sit down, one of the staff members turned around and quite abruptly asked if were were together, to which we said yes, and then told us to go and put something on the table to reserve it before someone came in to take it because they were busy, and only getting busier. Whilst I appreciate this was probably meant to be helpful, I actually found it quite abrupt and bit pushy. When we finally got to the front of the queue, half way through taking our order another member of staff came to the waitress on the till and asked to swap, which they did, but then the new waitress started totalling up our order and trying to take payment without even asking if we had finished. It took my boyfriend 3 additional attempts to complete our order, as it seemed she had no patience or manners in making sure we ordered everything, it just seemed like she wanted to serve us as quickly as possible. On top of this, I could also hear the two members of staff making hot drinks gossiping about another member of staff or customer in direct earshot of all the customers waiting in the queue. We then sat down, and had drinks and a scone brought over to us. About 15 minutes later, we saw the waitress from the till and another in the kitchen looking confused, to which she came out and shouted in-front of the whole cafe, to which everyone went silent ‘has anyone moved from that table?’ And pointed to a couple we were mid meal. Everyone said no, to which she then read out an order which happened to be ours and said ‘I’ve got you two as sat down on that table’. At this point, I felt incredibly awkward and flustered, and quite annoyed that she felt the need to do that rather than approach the other table and/or us to sort out a simple mistake. Not only that, but it felt somewhat like she was blaming us as opposed to a mistake she had made. Our food then came. Overall, the food was average at best, if not below average. The paninis lack flavour, and the scones come ready made with jam and cream inside them that have been sat in the fridge on display making them very dry, the cream hard and the jam tastes cheap. The hot drinks we had also came boiling hot, meaning we couldn’t drink them for a good 10 - 15 minutes. If this wasn’t enough, I could see the worker in the back preparing food wearing an apple watch, no apron, and I did not see her wash her hands in between handling different meals. I admit that I am not particularly knowledgable about establishment food hygiene practices as I don’t work within this sector, and they do have a food hygiene rating of 5 as of April 2022 however I could not help but feel slightly alarmed by this. Overall, I felt incredibly uncomfortable and awkward eating in this cafe and my experience only got worse the longer we stayed there. The staff need some serious training in customer service and just genuinely need to change their attitude to seem like they care for their customers as opposed to making us feel somewhat like a burden. We will not be visiting here ever again.

The upstairs seating area here is a fantastic place to go. Good coffee too. Go here, it's fantastic!

I paid £6.50 for a bacon and mushroom panini that was sadly lacking in a fillling. 2 thin slivers of cheese, 3 undercooked small pieces of streaky bacon, and 4 of the thinnest pieces of mushroom you could get.If you'd have paid £2.50 you'd have been pushing it. There was more if the panini showing empty than had a filling on it. Sadly it took so long g to come we had it wrapped to take home and put extra filling in it to make it edible. And the pot of tea that was ordered was just sat on the side for ages as there was no one to bring it to the table.Where has the quality gone from this place. Its sadly in a decline.

Ordered a pannini off the specials and a tea. 20 minutes later still no sign of the tea despite no other people coming in. Heard several comments from the staff during this time about 'why is no one serving?' 'Why is no one clearing tables?' My pannini arrived and despite costing over six pound I was lucky if it had half a mushroom, a tiny amount of greasy bacon and some cheese. Half of it had no filling at all. When I asked about my tea I was told it was sat on the side. Absolute waste of money and will not return. Next door is just as bad and really gone down hill

I have visited Peacocks for many years recently call for coffee most days but found members of staff very abrupt and rude They frequently seem to be unhappy and not friendly at all The younger girls seem nicer but some staff constantly rolling eyes and commenting on their colleagues Not professional and need training in Customer service We customers are not an inconvenience we pay your wages

I had a nice experience here! The ladies behind the counter were polite. Me and my friend had panini’s which came with a side of salad. I ordered a pot of tea with mine and all was tasting lovely. Only catch is the tight seating area! Overall a nice experience!

Have been many times but not since Covid. Visited 16th August for lunch. Wife ordered jacket potato which on arrival looked grey and unappetising and the cherry tomato was squidgy. My tuna and cheese panini contained little tuna compared with previous visits. Also I'm advised the toilet didn't have a seat. Disappointing and we won't be going back.

Waiting half an hour to be served, people behind us served first, coffee was bitter, wife visited the ladies, toilet seat was missing, not good with a replacement .
