Sold the nicest Port. Correct measure where some pubs don't know it is a 50 ml measure.

I love The Star. The cask ales are an ever- changing selection and are well-kept by someone who obviously knows how to run a cellar. Tom the barman knows my preference for ale now and if there are brews on that I'm unfamiliar with will recommend the one he thinks will best fit my tastes. He's rarely been wrong. You won't get football screens or loud music, except in a Monday night which is home to an acoustic trad/ folk music session. This used to be in the back room but has acquired so many attendees over the last year that it's now in one end of the main bar. The music is a great mix of both songs and tunes, with a real buzz most Mondays and is well worth a visit just to listen, or to join in if you play or sing. Otherwise it's just a great traditional pub serving excellent beer and somewhere to have good conversations with family or friends.

Saturday 30th December 2023This great great real ale pub next to the train station served 5 really good handpumped alesGreat locals pub with proper public house drinking areas and an atmosphere of a 20th-century public house in summer at the front of the pub. There is a lot of benches where outdoor drinking is allowedThis pub is an essential visit for real ale drinkers when coming to GlossopWell done, everyone who drinks or works in this pub????

This is very much an old-fashioned quiet local pub - they're getting hard to find!I love the Monday evening music sessions. Lots of Scottish and Irish music, plus a sprinking of other tunes and songs. The beer's great and not expensive, and the service is fast and friendly too.

A superb beer oasis in the centre of Glossop. An excellent and ever changing range of well kept real ales. Service with a smile in a traditional pub.

Decent real ale pub, well located by the rail station in the town center. Always got a range of ales and rotates them well. Small and cosy atmos, local characters all very friendly. Its a real old boys glossop experience and well worth a visit.

Great craft beers, I definitely come back there for more

Curry Man

Definitely the best pub in the area for cask conditioned real ale. Usually up to 5/6 beers on handpump from breweries like Osset, Abbeydale, Pictish, Thornbridge, Titanic etc. Occasionally they have real Draught Bass which can be served traditionally without a sparkler.

Glossop has at least a dizen or so pubs but The Star - very handily situated just 20 yards from the railway station - offers by far the best-kept and tasting beer in this friendly little town. If you are a cask ale lover, then look no further. The Star doesn’t pretend to be something it isn’t. Don’t go there to watch sport on the telly, or to eat, or listen to loud music (they do, though, usually have popular, nostalgic tunes playing in the background that aren’t a conversation killer). What The Star does is focus full attention on delivering what should matter most to all pubs - quality beer, ciders and spirits. Landlord Paul clearly takes great pride in serving a quality pint and his well stocked bar never lacks variety. There are usually four cask beers on the pump every day, from golden ales to darker stout options, supplied by local breweries. Jaipur, Citra and White Rat are always very popular. And the Guinness here is also top notch. This is a real shining star among Glossop pubs.
