Perfect pub/bistro lunch after a long walk. Food and drink were amazing as well as the company, new friends made. Looking forward to visiting again.

Really good food and such lovely people. It was supposed to be a booking for 6 out for a pre Christmas meal but due to a baby coming early it ended up with being only 2 of us celebrating the birth. So thoughtful and understanding about the changes. The new parents loved the card all the staff signed. The new parents will be over with the new baby and so will we when visit next.

Another amazing meal at The Packhorse. New Years Eve tasting menu, absolutely fabulous. Thanks to the whole team for making the evening so special. And thank you Luke for the advice on venison.

We eat out a lot but I dnt write many reviews now. However I felt I needed to write one after our lunch experience yesterday My husband said it was the best meal he had had all year!!!! Wow and that includes some starred restaurants The atmosphere in the pub is lovely warm and welcoming We sat in the restaurant end but the bar end looked good too Where we sat we could see the chefs quietly at work - no Gordon style shouting!!! The food was excellent all served with a smile I had flamed trout which was gorgeous and then a squash tart which came with lovely Yorkshire pudding and vegetables My husband opted for the beef shin pie which he said was delicious There was an excellent selection of drinks and a good wine list Thank you The Pack Horse for a lovely lunch

You can see why this pub is one of the best gastro pubs in the country. Service is friendly and efficient. The food is excellent. Try the fish and chips and compare to others and you’ll see and taste the difference. An excellent menu with changing items. You won’t be disappointed if you have not already been and experienced their food and pub atmosphere then give it a try.

Judging by the other excellent reviews clearly we visited on an off day. 45 mins between in and out and £98 lighter for the privilege. It didn’t feel like good value for money or a very nice dining experience. Would I go back, I’d rather not thank Not really a dining experience or a very comfortable outing and everything we wanted to order from the menu seemed to be a problem or issue. Restaurant felt cold We were told that they had run out of English mustard.. (there is a village shop 50 meters away) Had to get my own knife and fork when our food arrived Plates were cold The food wasn’t hot The Wine that we ordered never came and I really mean it never came Asked for extra gravy which was made, but placed on the serving hatch for so long that I went to collect it myself.

Food is lovely, very reasonable pricing and great service ! Certainly a little gem. We have the Fish & Fizz deal, two mains and a bottle of wine for just over £30. Will be back next time we are passing through. One of our party was gluten free and was well catered for.

After a glorious day spent walking to Kinder Downfall we celebrated my wife's 70th birthday at the Pack Horse. This proved a good choice, the food and wine were excellent and the welcome warm... a great restaurant in a beautiful location. And it's rare to find an establishment that manages to balance being a pub and fine dining restaurant but on the evidence of our visit, the Pack Horse succeeds well.

What can I say ? Absolutely blown away. We have attempted to get in here a couple of times but never been successful. Currently staying in the area, so booked in advance and I cannot explain how glad I am, the food and service were literally anazing. I was worried that they would not meet our expectations, but they exceeded them !! Thank you so much, we will be back very soon, with friends x

Excellent service and stunning food. Highly recommend this place and try something different from the menu. The front of house understanding of the menu and accompanying wine was perfect. We will definitely be back

I visited this pub on Sunday the 22nd Oct 23 for lunch with my wife and brother in law, who had recently lost his wife. Our primary reason for visiting this particular pub, was to celebrate and remember occasional visits in her memory. We had not booked in advance because the website referred it was not necessary on Sundays as there is always room in the bar area. On arrival we were told to take a table in the bar area by someone in charge of bookings. We looked at the menu and was pursuaded by the lamb described as slow cooked overnight! The meals arrived and it was quite obvious that the lamb was not cooked as we expected it to be from the menu description, in fact it was pink rare and very fatty...plus 3 roast potatoes, one slither of carrot, a spoonful of cabbage and we presume pumpkin puree plus a yorkshire pudding! Certainly not worth the £24 per head price tag. While my brother-in-law reluctantly ate the lamb, my wife and I didn't touch it and just ate the potatoes and veg. We were later asked if all was okay with the meals, and my wife said the lamb was not cooked enough and inedible. The manager came to explain the lamb was cooked overnight and served medium rare!! I replied we ordered because it said slow cooked overnight and didn't see anything about being served medium rare. We asked for the bill, and another person/ woman came with card machine in hand to take payment. I asked her if the menu states served med rare and her reply was no, i suggested maybe it should. Her reply being that they source their lamb locally and if its cooked longer it loses the flavour and texture. We were not offered any compensation, just to say if you come back mention this to them....as if we would. The same evening, my brother-in-law in his 70's who ate the lamb was violently sick. All in-all a very disappointing experience and waste of £72.

Wow! The online hype is worth it. We did a really nice walk up to lantern pike and ended up back here for dinner. Definitely reserve a table we did so about a week prior. The website has really great easy walking directions btw starting and ending at the pub which is a lovely touch! Plenty of on road parking outside the pub too. Top notch service and the food is truly 10/10 every dish is so well thought out and the flavour combustions are unreal. We were expecting good things and our expectations were exceeded! Lovely atmosphere and decor too- everything you could want from a country pub! Can't wait to visit again soon.

After a long walk around Kinder Reservoir, my partner and I visited for a Sunday lunch at around 1pm. We had booked, as we'd heard it gets busy at the weekend. It was quiet when we arrived and we were seated quickly, but it started to get a lot busier by around 2pm, so plan accordingly if you want quick service and a quieter meal. The staff were all very welcoming, attentive, and approachable. They helped us choose between a few dishes and were quick to serve our drinks. We had the soup of the day to start, which was probably the highlight of the meal for me. It was an incredibly delicious blue cheese soup with croutons. One of the best I've had. My partner had the mushroom ragout, which was on the smaller size, but tasted exquisite. We had the lamb roast and fish and chips for mains. Both were amazing. The fish was flaky and moist, and the batter was delicious, with so much more flavour than you normally get. Their homemade tartare sauce and curry sauce were incredible. The roast was a great size, and every part of it was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The lamb was pink in the middle and incredibly tender, but if you like your meat cooked more, you'll need to ask. We shared the salted caramel custard tart for dessert and both enjoyed it. It was like an old school Daim bar in tart form! Some of the other reviews say it's too sweet but, quite frankly, that's absolute rubbish. For ale lovers, the selection was great and I'd highly recommend the tiramisu ice cream porter.

Every time I go to this place it gets better. We've been for a birthday celebration dinner, bar snacks with friends, curry and quiz night and just for a drink. Every single one of them was outstanding. Where else can you ask for a coffee at 10:30 at night, and not only get one freshly brewed , but have it served with a home made orange and fennel biscotti to die for? The perfect pub.

Cracking pub and great food, well worth a visit. It has to be in the conversation for the best 'pub' food in and around the Peak District.
