I went to Cathay today and ordered a few. They got £4.8 for free. They were a good deal and some good food. It turned out that they had a new chef. I asked the last one because they didn’t do anything. I hope they can maintain the standard.

What a shame...this takeaway is not what it used to be.When we lived in Ilkeston this was our go to Chinese, it was fantastic, quality, taste, portions etc.....everything we ever had from here was amazing.We ordered from here on Saturday night....I ordered a crispy aromatic duck, there was very little duck, the portion was truly measley, what duck was in the container was very small, dry and a lot of gristle and fatty boney bits.I felt completely ripped off.Certainly not enough to fill even one or two pancakes....had to throw the other pancakes away.I don't mind paying the going rate of duck these days if you actually get a proper portion but unfortunately this was a massive let down.The egg fried rice was garbage, over cooked rice and was tasteless.The soup was like a tin of cream of chicken soup from the supermarket with fresh mushrooms thrown in it.The king prawn balls were ok but not fantastic at all.The ribs were alright.Given this a two star because we didn't get food poisoning.We did try to order from Cathay Princess a couple of years ago but decided against it as they had very little on their menu compared to previous years and they had no crispy duck.We only ordered from here at the weekend because our local takeaway said we'd be waiting about an hour and a half which we didn't want to do and we were passing through Ilkeston on our way back home so decided to give it a try because they had crispy aromatic duck back on the menu......unfortunately we won't be going back unless they can sort the food out.My partner said there was no cooking sounds or busyness going on when he went in to collect our order, the place was dead on a Saturday night.Such a shame as it used to be wonderful every time we ordered.

What have you done to my favourite chinese takeaway ! Different owners? We dont have chinese very often but when we do it was always Cathay Princess. I always recommended this place to friends. However rang tonight just after 5pm ..to find menu totally changed and all my favs gone. Waited over an hour and 15 mins ( told 45mins) for very bland food ..no taste..even the hubbys chow mein was not the usual standard and came dry when we asked for sauce. We didnt eat half of it all. We hate complaining but sorry....we wont be ordering again.
This Chinese takeaway is wow bloody lovely I highly recommend the food is out of this world and they very friendly lovely people

Ordered from these tonight and they got our order wrong, when we contacted them about the mistake we were greeted with an abrupt woman who stated "nothing they could do as the driver was too far away"What a joke!!! Not their driver at fault its theirs for getting it wrong, shocking service if you can't simply put right a mistake, first time ordering and last lol
