Visited before watching the Matlock illuminations, considering the fish bar was full there wasn’t a queue and we were served very efficiently. One lady took the order and another served the food. As soon as we had paid for the food, it was there waiting for us. The food was piping hot and fish batter was lovely and crisp. The chips were very well cooked too and not at all greasy. We put our own salt and vinegar on. One thing I could say was the large chips was only enough for 2 people. Maybe it could be a larger portion ? All in all a very pleasant visit.

If I could choose 0 I would... 0/10...where do I honestly start.... my daughter on her first holiday..she buys 2 x fish and chips ... £18 ,,,, That was a big enough shock .... takeaway .... only to find both fishes filled with parasite worms .....I'll add a photo so u can see.obviously being a mum of a teenager, you can imagine I messaged them...only for them to then reply it's normal ....yes parasites can live in fish... but its not normal .and I expect a refund at the first instant!day 2 and no reply for refund...instead now completely ignoring me ... and blocked me on my other Facebook! but its ok this is my old account !but hey now due to the rudness the arrogance and the disgusting fish ill happy leave My review everywhere I can on line, Google, everywhere!!!! As after my call to the environmental health department they said its due to quality issues . poor quality fish .so I say no more.then I see you have deleted the comment someone wrote about the gluten free food, not actually gluten free as it made them unwell....so it's a shame they have not written a review.thinking u blocked me pretty quickly to stop me leaving this review .. but guess u failed !Just filter here and read worst comments, all the food poisoning!!!

We ate there tonight while we were visiting the illuminations. We had to leave Matlock within 30 minutes as my partner and I had fish and chips, we both had food poisoning and seriously upset stomach’s. Avoid at all costs, their are serious issues here.

Delicious fresh fish & chips, served by lovely helpful staff. It was nice to sit by the river. I would recommend.

Gluten free, yay!Fish and chips went down easily but not the best I've had (greasy chips no flavour).I'm glad the cashier automatically charged us for large because portions run small.Busy (and dated interior) which is usually a good sign.Dietary restrictions: Gluten free

We have been here many times over the years. However today the young lady who brought our food out to was was very rude. When I said our food was wrong she challenged me as to what my name was. Said it was Claire, as was wrote on the receipt. She said "that's your food then" and walked away. I politely said no it's wrong, where she sighed, rolled her eyes and stopped over. (Reminded me of a toddlers tantrum) I also get it was a hot day, and it was busy, but manners cost nothing.Explained again it was wrong, and again showed the receipt, showing the right food. After another sigh, eye roll, and mutterings she picked up our tray with all the food on and rudely said "ill take it all back". And stomped off again. I had 3 teens with me who all commented on her rudness at this point so I know it wasn't just me.She returned and slammed the tray down, filled by the receipt, staring me in the eye and said "here" cue eye roll, sigh, and stomping.

Portions were on the smaller side, but service was quick and staff were friendly. Sat outside, it was tidy and water bowls provided for dogs. Battered sausage was just OK, chips fresh but greasy. Fish was good!
