Popped in for lunch. Open and spacious with a good seating plan. Tasty food, well presented at reasonable prices. Excellent draught beer. Overall - what's not to like?

Rooms are very dated I had no towels on arrival could do with a chair at the dressing table, no iron in the room, the flush on the toilet gets stuck, menu is OK but not the best pie was OK but not enough mash and veg. breakfast was good apart from cold beans and eggs very greasey, went out and when I came back there was a lot if mess outside my door really needed hoovering up but was just left cleaning products left in my room not great if you had young children, room was spacious, t.v signal is rubbish had to watch it on my phone overall I nice stay just few few things needing attention, I know ownership has just changed so hopefully they will look I to this.

Had Sunday lunch here with 21 friends, pre booked, and the food was fabulous. They replenished anything we ran out of very quickly and the service was great. We really enjoyed our afternoon here and left feeling we’d had a really lovely meal. Thank you to all the staff.

Large group booked in for family birthday dinner shown to private room, furniture was in poor condition had to change 2 chairs as they were broken, service was a bit slow despite there were very few customers in the bar.Food was fine and all came at the same time as we had pre ordered, probably choose elsewhere if back in the area next time

We didn't stay here, we came here for lunch and excitedly ordered two of the Warm Butternut Squash, Toasted Seeds & Quinoa Salads. We asked how large the small and large versions were and told the small was starter size so we went for the large at £14.00 for a main meal. Unfortunately, what came resembled a starter. There must have been minimal preparation for this in the kitchen. About half a dozen cm square pieces of Butternut Squash pan fried, about a table spoon of Quinoa and I was lucky if I found three toasted pine nuts in there, all on top of a straight out of the bag loose leaf salad with half of a loosely chopped baby gem underneath. As a vegetarian I really hate paying prices similar to those of a fully cooked meat dish but the quantity, quality and amount of work gone into the meal is minimal and very poor. Certainly not worth £14 each for a small and poor salad. My wife wouldn't let me say anything at the time as there were people on a nearby table. When we left we had to pop across the road for a snack to eat! Doubt we will choose here again for lunch.

We got there late Saturday morning as we wanted to go for a long walk with the dogs. Parking was easy to find outside so we didn’t take up the offer to have our bags put in our room for our return. We booked a table for food and drinks for 7pm because the food and menu on the website looked good and we were more than surprised that it lived up to it. The rooms were very comfortable and clean. Breakfast was just as good as the evening meal and we were all very happy. I didn’t take the managers-owns name but he certainly worked very hard and nothing we asked for was a problem for him. We would definitely go again.

Lovely historic building and nice welcome, some nice sympathetic choices of renovation by the owners and then others a bit odd e.g. corporate style furniture and bathrooms which is such a shame given the history of the place. They need to get their cleaning consistent. Whilst the important bits like loo and bedding were very good, other places like carpet, surfaces and kettle equipment not touched. Too dusty to want to use. Misinformation over food times meant we didn’t end up eating there - but enjoyed a great dinner on Monday pie night in the Boat Inn round the corner and a fry up in the Tor cafe next day. Excellent location for walk to Cromford Mills just 2 mins and then join canal walk from there. Lovely place, but cleaning needs reviewing.

Despite advertising “serving lunch Monday-Saturday” it does not. Providentially, there is a much nicer place (The Boat) right next door which served 4 of us a faultless pub lunch, in a welcoming atmosphere.

Spent a wonderful night here, our room was spacious and very clean. Tea and coffee facilities, biscuits and even some crisps to munch on after our day exploring. Evening meal was lovely I had the steak my partner the burger. Fabulous full English breakfast with toast and orange juice. We had an issue with our TV but they couldn't be more helpful. Great value for money in a beautiful location will definitely visit again.Rooms: Clean, quiet with everything you needNearby activities: Cromford Mill and Cromford canal a short walk away. Matlock Bath a short drive.Food & drinks: Delicious food

Only came in for a family meal and my ratatouille was raw so I had to send it back.I received some vegetables & chips instead but they weren't cooked properly either.
