Excellent carvery. Food absolutely delicious. Staff great. Lovely place. Car parking can be tight but find somewhere to park and get there, you won't be disappointed.

Family birthday meal out for four of us. All 4 meals ordered were excellent. Really recommend the pies! Lovely friendly service. Only problem was getting home - we were too full to walk!

Excellent pre-Christmas stay to spend time with family who live locally. Friendly staff, comfortable room and fantastic shower! Good choice of ales, extensive menu and highly recommend the full English breakfast. Free parking and only a few minutes walk into Matlock town centre and great base to explore the Peak District. Would have liked slightly firmer pillows - just a personal preference

The Red Lion was recommended by a friend and I stayed there with a family member for 4 nights. Loved this place as soon as we walked in , lovely old building and really nicely decorated inside. A proper pub with snug areas and real fires and they brew their own beer. Everyone is so friendly and its obvious they care about the locals and trippers alike. Very well run, decent prices, lovely staff, great food. Was.so nice to have lovely meals then a few.drinks by the open fire. Met Alfie, cutest little.pub dog. Lovely area, friendly locals. Highly recommend, will definitely be back. Thank you for a.lovely break.

Stayed for 2 nights and it was excellent. Room very clean, comfortable nights sleep and brilliant shower. Breakfast was so good, full English or poached/scrambled eggs on toast, plus cereals. Traditional pub and everyone really friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Carpark at the back of the pub and 5 mins walk into Matlock. Would definitely stay here again.

Just returned from a lovely stay up in Matlock for a friend’s wedding. The Red Lion staff and hospitality were flawless. Cosy room, delicious food, and good reasonably priced beer. Thank you for the walking recommendations!

Had a wonderful stay here this weekend. Situated just a short walk from the town centre this place is definitely worth a visit. Made to feel welcome the moment we checked in right through to when we checked out & had out suitcase carried out to the car. The staff really do go that extra mile to make you feel welcome & comfortable. Such a cosy pub with a fabulous atmosphere. The breakfast is super, made with quality ingredients & cooked to perfection by the amazing, friendly/cheeky chefs. The room was clean & tidy with everything you need for a short stay. Will return again in the future.

Second time visiting for a Sunday carvery. Fantastic carvery and a good price. One of the best we have had. Bar staff really friendly. Highly recommended.

Whenever we are in Matlock we always dine at the Red Lion. The food and service are consistently good. On this occasion we had three sharing plates to start, which were excellent. Unfortunately, the main courses were slightly disappointing. We chose the ribeye steak with all the trimmings, but the chips let the meal down as they were not up to the usual standard. Despite being advertised as ‘hand cut’, they appeared to be frozen and quite dry, which I pointed out to the waitress who said she would feedback to the chef. This was such a shame as the steak was very good- tender and tasty. Next time we visit, I will ask in advance of ordering. I'm hoping this was just a one off.

Two night stay, excellent, room felt like an apartment, breakfast first class, and evening meals lovely. The Red Lion brews it’s own beers, and I would come again to taste them We would also visit again for the atmosphere and pleasant banter led by Lee .and the staff. Very please with our stay. thanks..

Warm welcome: 5*, beers from its own brewery: 5*, comfortable bedrooms with brand new bathrooms: 5*. The pies at dinner were deliciously filled and served with excellent chips. Only problem, we think they were precooked and then reheated, so that the pastry had become hard and dry.

Absolutely adored our visit to the Red Lion, such welcoming staff, felt at home as soon as I walked in the pub! Food was exceptional I didn’t know what to expect but it would have exceeded any expectations! I had the lentil lasagne and my hubby had the pork belly! Both delicious washed down with some Moot Ale. Really a splendid wholesome visit to a local pub with local ale and food, We will definitely return when we are back in the area!

Wow! Simple as that. Beer is fabulous, especially the export lager. Staff absolutely brilliant. Breakfast terrific. Rooms comfortable and clean. Couldn't find a fault if I tried.
