We often come to Heanton Court for their Roast dinners which are simply wonderful. Service is great, food is great and most importantly during the winter, it’s warm inside which isn’t always guaranteed at other local restaurants.

Lovely cosy place for a tasty Sunday lunch. The lamb was delicious and the pub is very dog friendly. Food arrived quickly and prices represented good value for money.

A great evening out on New Years Day at Heanton, having the choice to decide to eat in the bar area or Restaurant, we chose to go in the restaurant and it was a charming and relaxed area. The food options were very good, there were a couple of items missing off the menu but nothing that affected our choices for our mains, we didn’t have starters! We can say, the mains were of a good size, presented well and tasted great. Good staff service to see if we were ok and that the food was ok. We had desserts, which again, were lovely and tasty. Not overly big but perfect after our mains. Overall a lovely visit to Heanton after driving past many times before. Will definitely be returning in 2024

So, so disappointed. Lived in the area for 30 years and Heanton Court had always been a go to for us- not sure if we’ll ever be back again. Recent visits have gotten progressively worse but our recent trip on 29th December was truly abysmal. Understaffed front of house, all of the staff were ran ragged. Food was shocking, starter (scallop and king prawn bake) didn’t resemble the dish we’ve had previous- scallop cut into thin shreds, no king prawns in sight and a weird mash potato base, the ciabatta was absent and the kitchen sent out a piece of toast when asked where it was. Steak was grey and tasteless, no choice of sides given so came with a slimey gone off salad. My partner had seas bass with chorizo and the chorizo was hard little burnt black rocks on the plate, we thought they might nuts- truly foul. The potatoes dauphoise side is definitely a pre frozen potato rosti you can buy at home. Felt truly sorry for the front of house staff, cost cutting measures from the management need to be addressed. The “twixtmas” time is a lovely time to support local pubs, and Heanton is probably one of the best views in north Devon. Sadly will not be returning until it’s under new ownership or management.

Came here for Christmas dinner the our dog. Beautiful food and really friendly service, very dog friendly bowl of water was provided and treats for our dog. Made sure we were sat in an area where the dog was safe and had her own space. Love how it is next to a beach but was raining when we went so no walk for us, would recommend for other couples/family’s who don’t want to leave their dogs on Xmas

The place makes you feel comfortable giving it’s warm pub vibes , Not much of an atmosphere giving it was a Saturday evening! We ordered at the bar.. and then waited 10mins confused while our drinks weren’t being poured?… I had to remind the barmaid about our drinks and she totally forgot I ordered ?! Think she may of been hungover haha The food was ok, we enjoyed it. But one of the plates was the wrong order and had to be sent back , But was sorted within 5-10mins! 6/10 Not bad!

Recently spent an evening here with nine members of my family, I couldn't fault it in any way. Wonderful atmosphere, really friendly and helpful staff. The food was excellent even a slight change to the menu was done by the chef with great imagination to the delight of the recipient....me! All in all a really great evening.

Visited here with friends for a mid week meal. The pub itself is lovely, warm and nicely decorated. Bit of a wait to order as there is no table service. As we were paying separately, we were told the food would come out at different times, I am not sure why they couldn’t have relayed a message to the kitchen that we wanted the meals to come out as one. Asked a question about chicken and was told they would check with the kitchen. The kitchen were unsure if they were serving chicken breast or thigh as it is brought in from outside and it “doesn’t say on the box”. I am unsure how a kitchen can serve food and not be sure what it is! I went for lasagne as an alternative. Clearly this was not home made and was microwaved, tasting like a cheap deal meal bought from a supermarket. For the price, really disappointing. Sadly, I wouldn’t eat here again. However, lovely customer service from a young chap- well done.

I have been to this pub for lunch with friends so felt happy taking my family there. Good ambience and it was nice and warm with an open fire, but they had a large group in and so we waited one and a half hours for our main course which kind of spoils the whole thing. If you have a large group in then restrict your walk ins. I rang up to book a table and would rather have been told no sorry we are full this lunchtime, than having to wait so long to eat as had other things to do that day.

We popped in for lunch post walking our dog. The staff were very welcoming, including to the dog. The food was pretty good and came in a reasonable time frame. We just had a drink and main each, which came out as £20 a head. With the rise in overheads, I guess this is about right, but we did decide to have cake and coffee at home to reduce the cost. We have lived in N Devon for a long time, and this is the best this venue has been. I do wonder if they will have the old problem of struggling with the numbers in peak season. In my view, they need to stick to a limit on how many food orders are taken if this happens and keep their standards of service.

A lovely venue, but the food not always great, and this time I feel moved to write a review. In late October I visited with 3 friends, and two of the party chose the Pie of the Day (Steak and Ale). The meat was gristly, almost too tough even to cut - in fact, inedible - most of it was left on the plates. Also the mashed potato was actually stone cold (not even warm). We complained at the time, and were given a free dessert - but this experience has rather put us off visiting again. Very poor indeed, and I'm only giving 2 stars because of the nice, helpful waitress!

Not the best experience which is a shame as it has always been a positive experience in the past. It was very cold - although the fire was lit in the main area it was not lit in the side room and the heating was not on and it was quite cold in there - we had to keep our coats on. I asked the lady behind the bar if it would be possible to light it and she replied no because it was too late in the day...it was only 6.30pm! She then returned to looking at her mobile phone. Also the milk jug was dirty inside and I was not offered the complimentary flapjack that should have accompanied my hot drink.
