Great atmosphere, simple uncomplicated pub grub and a good selection of real ale. This was my first visit and the bar lady was welcoming. The pub itself was attractive and all the daily papers were available. We'll be back.

Traditional local pub, welcoming, great food, traditional beers, spirits and cider, quiz every month, live music and regular jazz sessions. Great outdoor seating area with live music. Superb breakfast, an asset to a village. Lunch menu is great produce, a veritable feast.

THE BEST SUNDAY ROAST ? a visit to the parents is never without a Sunday roast visit at the castle inn, the beef just melts in your mouth. Reasonably priced, plenty of gravy/veggies and crispy potatoes. An absolute hidden treasure for a Sunday roast.

We had a gathering at the Castle this week 28 of us and all of us were delighted with the quality of the food and the friendly attentiveness from the staff.. nothing was too much trouble.. even the quiz master was brilliant with his jovial banter whilst delivering a great quiz .. we shall return.. 10/10 experience

Lovely pub with an open fire, in the heart of the community. The staff were great, super friendly and very helpful. This pub also acts as the village shop, since the main one closed. The only let down for us, sadly, was the food - which such a shame, as it’s a lovely welcoming place. Perhaps we went on a bad day food wise, as other reviews suggest it is great. We didn’t raise an issue, as we didn’t want to offend such friendly staff, but I didn’t eat my meal. Give it a visit, as we really enjoyed the pub, staff and love what it represents in Landkey.

This inn used to be top notch, staff, food, drink…. Standards have dropped considerably with lots of swearing behind and around the bar, by over friendly punters. Cloudy pints and over simplified dishes on the menu despite a price rise. On 3/4 occasions chips/burgers were overcooked. Steak suddenly lost its appeal when the chef changed the dish to salad and coleslaw instead of the traditional peas, mushrooms and tomatoes and onion rings. Jacket potatoes were shockingly removed from the menu. Puddings were no more than a microwaved plastic sponge pot served on a small plank of wood. The pub itself is beautiful and tastefully decorated area and very warm atmosphere. They do however seem to have a fly problem in the bar seated area. The flies drank more than us. A price cut and traditional meals are what is needed here. Bit of staff training on etiquette behind the bar and I think the castle inn would be back to its former glory.

I struggle to understand how this place is the 4th best rated restaurant in the Barnstaple area, as based on my visit it is mediocre at best. My feelings are coloured partly by the service which was outwardly friendly but overall fairly average and also by some oddly long wait times. As to the food, it was certainly "acceptable", but the pricing is at a level that could best be described as grasping relative to what is offered. Perhaps the Castle Inn will argue their burgers are made in house, but their overly minced texture is far more representative of mass produced or frozen patties. At £16.50 the value of that is questionable despite an abundance of (relatively over cooked) chips. The fish and chips were so-so, the Mac & Cheese the relative stand out. And then there is the white bait... five individual white bait on a few undressed salad leaves for £7.75 is a value proposition I would struggle with in a pub paying London rents, let alone out here. Perhaps there are limited options in this area hence the high rating ... but I have a doubt that is the case. Overall I would visit again to sup a pint in the gorgeous public bar, but I couldn't recommend eating here.

Fabulous roast dinner. Very tasty, delicious meat, fresh vegetables and the best gravy...and the Yorkshire pudding! The service was fabulous and the atmosphere was very welcoming. We took our 3 children and they loved it too.
