Christmas meal with friends Starters were just about ok . The Brie was stone cold.soup was awful. Mains were ok ,nice roast potatoes. Frozen sprouts were cold and the parsnips were not roasted. Desserts were awful. Trifle was just jelly slopped on a plate with pouring cream on top. Eton message was disgusting, nobody ate it and the chocolate fudge cake was stone cold . Total waste of money . This place has gone down hill

16 of us went for Christmas dinner, really couldn't fault it, the food was fantastic and the service was brilliant, most of us had the set 3 course Christmas meal but we also had some children's meals and an adult meal. All mains were served at the same time which was a task in its self as the pub was very busy with lots of Christmas parties in . The staff were very friendly and cleared up quickly between courses we all had an excellent night and I will be returning again when I'm next down in Dawlish.

I Had a wonderful party for 50 people, the staff were amazing. Dan went above and beyond with organizing for us and overseeing the get together. The chefs worked their magic with the Hot food buffet it was delicious and we had a lot of great feedback from party guests with how lovely it all was, not a single negative comment. Room beautifully set out. Thank you all for the attention to detail and service given. We can't wait to come back again

Been coming here for 20 years and this is the first time I've been so disappointed with a meal. Infact I just couldn't eat it. Dont order the fish pie. It is a mash potato pie with minimal flakes of fish in it. They took 50% off the price of my main without a fuss, so fair enough, after all a bowl of mash for £17 is a bit of a pee take. I can't believe a chef would be happy sending that out, but they obviously are, so says it all really. Just feel for the front of house staff having to try and justify poor quality dishes.

I have been coming to this pub since I was 6 years old, it’s always been a highlight of this holiday location but my recent visit was disappointing for myself and my mum. We both ordered the fish pie and when it came it was basically a bowl of mash potato. (This dish costs £17?) Not being one to complain, I decided to make a member of staff aware who took the plate away. Shortly after another member of staff (supervisor??) came to tell us that they don’t put fish chunks in the pie but it is flakes which quite frankly is awful for the price they charge and the minimal fish in pie. After saying it didn’t even taste of fish but purely potato, I was told she wasn’t going to argue with me to which she offered me the plate of mash potato back or a new meal. I went for a new meal whilst my mum said she will just pick out the fish and eat the vegetables. Service seemed slow even though it was not busy at all. It has tainted our view of the what was a lovely pub - to be told by what I can only assume is management that they won’t argue with us but it is what it is; well, it’s disappointing.

My last meal a couple of years ago was disappointing but we decided to try it again as it is such a lovely place so we went for Sunday roast. The staff were lovely and the atmosphere very good. We had a table by the window ( a little squashed with tables either side but we managed). I chose roast beef and it was fine. Nothing too special if I'm honest. The only real gripe is the roast potatoes were huge and definitely not crispy in any way and the beef a little chewy but it was nicely presented and I did enjoy most of it. Pity there were no side dishes to accompany it (cauliflower cheese would have been nice) but overall a very nice meal in lovely surroundings. Its a pity that we cant pay a little extra on the card to cover the staff tips but we were told its not allowed. We never really carry cash so couldn't tip the really nice waitress on this occasion. Maybe next time. Thank you for an enjoyable couple of hours.

This pub/restaurant was within walking distance of where we were staying, and so pleased it was. What a fantastic place this is. We ate there 4 nights, trying something different each night and we were never disappointed. The meals were excellent , freshly cooked, and piping hot, well presented and plenty on your plate. Unfortunately as much as we wanted to try one of the delicious sounding sweets we could not squeeze one in. The staff were friendly and very helpful, checking if you needed more drinks and if the meals were OK. We can't praise it enough.

Went today for lunch it was very disappointing, I asked to have the cottage pie with vegetables instead of the chips, when it came to the table it was quite a small pie in a 4 - 5 inch round bowl too much mash no where near enough meat and no gravy, the veg was laughable probably one carrot cut up, a single small floret of broccoli, a small baby potato, couple of small pieces of parsnip and a couple of pieces of sliced leek. On the quite big plate looked ridiculous didn't even have the peas which would have been with the chips, my husband had to ask for more veg. There were other people there also unhappy with their meals, the chef needs to look carefully at the food before it's served, needs more pride in their work. Overpriced for what I had

We found this online when trying to find places to eat near our campsite. The reviews were a little worrying but thought we would try anyway as was in walking distance. Can’t fault it at all! Lovely place, really lovely staff! It was nice and quiet, the food was delicious. Yes maybe expensive but we are a family of 5 so nowhere is cheap for us. Lovely big windows to look out at the view. Would definitely recommend

Usually we like this place and have had quite good food. The Guinness is great. But tonight the bread that came with the food was coated with big salt crystals, making it impossible to eat. We complained and got some plain bread and a discount. But we just can't understand what sort of kitchen would cover bread with salt crystals. And afterwards we felt very sick...

We were staying nearby and this place was recommended to us. It has lovely views across Dawlish Warren and a lovely welcoming interior. The staff were friendly but the food was quite disappointing. We had a mixed grill, a kids meal, chicken supreme and an open prawn sandwich. The presentation really didn’t help the basic quality of the food served. The photos show exactly what I mean. It’s such a shame that a bit more effort isn’t put in because it really is a lovely building in a prime location. Also they allow dogs in the restaurant- there were 5 dogs at various tables all being fed by the owners from their plates. Ok so I admit I’m not a dog lover but that alone would stop me visiting again

The staff were friendly on arrival. Took a while to get served at the table. I had the “deluxe burger” it came with what tasted like out of a packet coleslaw and definitely not home cut chips but fried oven chips. Burger was dry. Not great at all. Pudding was a disappointment. Had the salted caramel pavolva. The tiniest shop bought meringue with shop bought ice cream. Squirty cream not whipped cream and bottle sauce for £7.45!! High priced food and could have got from the local Wetherspoons. Didn’t complain as with my parents who did not want a fuss. Perhaps as end of season, they are not fussed

Upon arrival we were quite hastily judged as we had 2 small dogs, one being reactive to others so using our own initiative we asked to sit somewhere out of the way and quiet near the front of the pub. We were very quickly asked to move and after receiving a few dirty looks from other people, were offered “a table with a view” which we knew was to move us away from others but into a more busy area! After then being seated we placed drinks orders followed by food, a handful of menu items were not available and at this point we decided to leave. No notice of unavailable food was given and no other option to amend the meals was either. The atmosphere was very odd and as previously stated we felt extremely judged. Won’t be going again.

3 of us had Sunday lunch here and it was lovely and hot. Plenty of veg and the roasties were huge. The other person had Gammon and enjoyed it. We're on holiday here and used to come here years ago. I would recommend this restaurant. The staff were very helpful too.
