Met with old friends on a Tuesday evening not knowing what to expect. Well what a lovely team of staff. Friendly, welcoming and efficient. Nothing was too much trouble. The meal was generous and good value. The added surprise was a complimentary pudding with a main meal . Will definitely recommend.

Friendly staff , good prices and service. Food excellent though sadly no fish pie anymore. Currently free desserts so good value. Children also eat free after 4 pm with each adult meal so families are onto a winner.

Today, Monday 8th January 2024 a Teignmouth and District u3a walking group of 27 descended on the Smugglers for lunch. We booked back in late 2023. The meal, venue and service was exemplary. Thank you very much for your wonderful service, food and catering so well for quite a large group. I'm very sure we will be back soon. X

Hoping for a carvery but didn't fancy all the boiled veg had a filled baguette with chips which was tasty husband disappointed as 2 options on the menu were not available. The dessert my husband had ordered off the special board was a great disappointment. The mulled pear crumble was infact a mulled pear with biscoff crumb on top.

Very disappointing visit yesterday. Called in for something to eat around 2:30pm and as we knew that lots of places have 2 set sittings for food at lunchtime and the evening, we asked if they were serving food and were told that they were but not taking walk ins. The pub was fairly quiet and really surprised that they were willing to turn away business from a family of 5 adults. Many say that the hospitality industry has been struggling lately, but this doesn’t seem to be the case for this venue.

We were a large party with 6 adults 2 young children and 2 infants and there was plenty of space for us with groups of tables being well spaced apart and high chairs available. Ruth, Lily, Sam and Jess and a lady cutting the meats we were friendly, accommodating and helpful. The Carvery was absolutely delicious, all the meats were succulent, and the wide veg selection was genuinely the best veg we have had at a carvery and well seasoned. Reasonably priced. Lovely toilets. Easy free car parking Great views. Overall excellent experience for everyone and we can't wait to come back. Thank you all!

Would avoid this place waited over an hour when it was empty and I ordered a 10oz ribeye which came as what I can only say was a flat piece of cheap frying steak med/rare clearly they don’t understand that as it was well done . Wife refused to eat her order and returned it to kitchen. The other orders burgers were tasteless and over cooked ? when nick owned the pub I never ever had a bad meal . There response to the retuned meal was we checked it and it was up to standard sorry it wasn’t to your taste not all meals are well chicken dripping in fat is clearly wrong on all fronts would avoid going here as it’s well expensive and not to a high standard ?will never eat here again !!

Absolutely fantastic experience for a family lunch. Ruth was amazing. From the greeting and accommodating all our family needs the whole service was friendly and attentive. The Sunday Carvery was surperb with so many options available. Definitely a place to go for a quick bite or a gathering. Also the view is spectacular. Thanks again Ruth making our visit so special.

Such a shame. The Smugglers as we know it has gone. I knew it as soon as I entered, as the place was empty. When the carvery was uncovered I lost my appetite, nothing appealing.

We arrived as a party of 8. ( 1 baby and 1 toddler) Starters were all garlic mushrooms which were lovely. Couldn't fault them, they were fantastic.we then waited nearly a hour for our mains. (Nobody minds waiting but the restaurant was dead quiet.) 3 adults had the cheeseburger (tough as boots, overcooked by about 30minutes.) 1 had the chicken schnitzel (inedible/ dry/ full of grease) 1 had a ribeye and asked for medium rare, it came out more than well done. 1 vegan burger which was acceptable. Kids meals absolutely fine. The only plus out of all of this experience is the waiter was brilliant. Poor poor display of food and will not be returning. £180+ and one of the worst sit down meals we’ve ever had. Standards have gone down hill in the last year and wish I believed, some of the more recent reviews. Terrible terrible experience

Booked a few weeks before as bringing my rescue GSD and wanted a spacious area to sit as hadn't had her long. Couldn't be more helpful and sat us in an alcove. Service was excellent and all staff were friendly and accommodating. Even bought my dog some scraps for the journey home. Would definitely recommend.

Benn to this establishment many times previous to the new owners, food always really good.Went last evening, food poor quality, luke warm & the meats Turkey & Gammon were again like warm, no taste & pretty sure meats been reheated with strange texture.Only one staff at bar, one in dinning room, very poor & prices now almost £16 for adult carvery. Will most definitely not be returning which is a shame as this used to be a brilliant establishment.
