Great pub with excellent food and friendly service. My room was great, in a sort of steep pitched roof bungalow/cabin, with plenty of room for a solo traveller, and a little balcony overlooking the countryside, which made for a pitch black night and allowed me to appreciate an incredible starfield above. Wonderful.

We were a group of sixteen away on Exmoor needing a good meal after a cold day out. The Poltimore Inn provided was welcoming and friendly, exactly what we were after. I had booked a couple weeks before and we ordered on the evening. The food came out all together and ready to eat for us as a large group. The most popular choice being the home made pie, this being a great recommendation. The gammon steak, burgers, fish and chips were also very decent meals. The bar of the pub is a tradition country pub set up with a dart board, pool table and solid furniture. So gives a real feel of being an active Exmoor country pub. the restaurant area is out the back, open roomy and more modern in decor and furniture. Definitely make your way here if you are in the area.

Headed in for lunch with my parents a couple of days ago half way along a countryside walk. Super friendly staff, a real village pub for the community ran by locals. Pub was very well maintained, and the food was great too. Really made our day going here, highly recommend. Think we’ll be back for a Sunday carvery in the future!

We went for a meal on a Tuesday evening in October, the pub (Inn) was nicely busy with a mix of locals and tourists. The atmosphere was lovely, very warm welcome from the lady serving behind the bar. The food was delicious, well prepared, especially the homemade pumpkin soup, and the Prawn linguine. The waitress was positive which made every interaction enjoyable. Another plus it was great value. I would say its would probably be worth booking as I think the Poltimore Inn would get busy at the weekends and high season.

WOW! What a place. We went there for a telescope course and found a fantastic pub! Food was great, waitresses were attentive and service was brilliant. Observatory is fabulous and we saw such a lot, lucky to catch a clear sky. Definitely will be back and recommend.

We arrived after a long drive, They offered us an upgrade straight away outside the building. It was raining and down a long steep driveway. we declined. put our stuff in the room, (towel rail fell off bathroom wall when I put towel on it. We went straight down to eat and informed them straight away about the towel rail. First meals sent out chicken was raw and blood running out (pictures to prove this) Prawns undercooked, mixed grill was cooked but no colour to one side of the meats like it was done in a hurry. Bar manager was lovely she apologised asked what else we would like and offered us a free drink which we didn't want. I didn't want to risk a main meal and, as I'd not eaten since breakfast, just had a pudding. Hubby ordered a burger and chips with an extra burger on it, and it arrived without an extra burger. The chips weren't cooked and were hard, so they then brought fresh chips and extra burger. Chips were fine, but the second burger was burnt and hard on one side. The kitchen manager came out she was polite but argued it depends how you like your food cooking! Also they had been very busy. Bar manager had said any food would be free that night, and we were brought a £38 bill, so we asked for the manager/owner who was out right rude and obnoxious the way he was trying to defend the food. He told us the bill had been cleared so we went to our room.As we went up, we could hear them arguing in the kitchen and heard the owner say,'the law of averages your bound to get one wrong! We carried on to our room. 10 minute's, after we were in the room their was a knock on our door, husband answered, and the manager/owner and kitchen manager were standing their. The manager said,'You can stay tonight have breakfast but then we want you to leave.' I said what you are kicking us out because you fed me raw chicken? He said we aren't kicking you out. You can stay tonight, and we have asked you to leave in the morning!" We said we have nowhere else to go. we had paid for 2 nights, and he said loads of b&b find one of them! He said he had to protect his staff? and were going to slate them?, and I said we had no intention of slating you, and your staff weren't the problem they were apologetic and nice it was you that was rude and obnoxious. The kitchen manager asked him to leave us and he went and she said he isn't a people person! She then argued how a burger and chips should be cooked and that they couldn't serve a burger pink, to which I said, "But you can chicken?" In the end, she said we could stay the sunday night, but we would have to eat else where else to protect the chef, and she would have made us pay for the burger and desert. We said we would get back to her. We asked about the heating as the room was cold, and we're told it would come on a timer, which it didn't.It didn't make sense she said we could stay in the end but cudnt eat in the hotel in the evening. As one of their chef cooked us breakfast in the morning. I had a piece of toast hubby that had full breakfast and enjoyed it.They left, and we booked a Premier Inn, and we rang down and let her know. They refunded us the 2 nights stay, but it totally ruined our last 2 nights of our holiday and pretty much left us stranded! We have never had a problem like this before anywhere or been treated so badly. I only wish I could upload the picture of the chicken sitting in blood!

Yet another fabulous weekend spent staying at the ‘Poltimore’! We have stayed here about 8 times now and the service and food here are second to none! The staff are really hardworking and very friendly… (nothing is ever too much trouble).
