Went there for a bite to eat, seemed to be the only place open in the town on that day ( Monday ) They are dog friendly which is a added bonus. Menus were exstensive which was a suprise. We had cakes and scones. Only issue i had was my scone disintegrate when i tried to cut them in half. Lots of butter cream and jam thou. Service was great.

I use the bakery quite often and have done for years. Their bread is superb - proper old school bakery made bread. The cutrounds (small, tall rolls dusted in flour for non Devonians!) are A1. Torrington is blessed to have two great independent and proper bakers and Green Lantern is one of those.

Fantastic takeaway breakfast at a great price. What a way to start the day. Staff very friendly too. A real gem.

Dog friendly little cafe in Torrington. Very welcoming to well behaved dogs on leads.

Cheap for a reason. First of all, I'd like to say their tarts are good, but we had to throw away the breakfast, sandwich and coffee... The coffee appeared to be made with instant powder, the sandwich was swimming in mayo and the breakfast was way too oily.

They don't have a coffee machine, instant coffee is made in the back and brought to you without even mentioning it's not real coffee. You can't trick people like this, we can tell the difference between real coffee and instant one.Fried bread was drowning in oil, as well as the tomatoes, even the bacon had 1 spoon of oil still in there. I've thrown the food to the bin because there is no way you can eat that much oil without getting sick. The only good thing in there is the peanut butter cups.

Lovely cafe and friendly staff

Food was ok and reasonably priced. However although there were four tables(16 seats) we were told we had to use the toilets at the pannier market 5 minuites away in the rain. Then the children at the next table, related to the staff, were taken upstairs to the toilets. I too had children with me. Unimpressed.

We visited this cheerful little cafe/bakery years ago for crumpets but this time, fortunately for us it was the right time of day for coffee and cake. Two lattes, an eccles cake and a lemon tart later we left just as impressed as last time. Very good value and delicious cakes, the servers were very friendly too. Glad we came back.

Some of the nicest bread I have eaten. Lovely fresh cakes too. And I am particularly partial to the quiche which is certainly not stingy on the cheese!

I don't get to Great Torrington very often, but when I do, I visit the Green Lantern. The last time I was there was a few years ago and it was quite by chance that we got our sandwiches and coffee there. Not only was the food excellent, there was plenty of it and I had to do a double take because the price was so reasonable. I went back there yesterday and the prices are still just as good and the food still just as excellent. I really should find more excuses to be in Great Torrington in search of food.

We both had the English breakfast, it arrived quickly, there was lots of it and really tasty, and all for £5.50!

Went here for lunch with my dad and Suki (dog friendly ++) and had a pasty, side salad and chips with a yummy coffee, finished off with a minced pie and cream. Definitely recommend ?
