Really good value for money, nice homely food & plenty of it. A very traditional setting and great family run business from their home.

If you want superb home cooked food in a family, homely atmosphere then this is 100% recommended. Been going here for about 30 years. Food 5* home cooked and their deserts are to die for?.

Had tea and cake. The tea was just like we make it at home hot and strong just how we like it. Carrot cake and lemon cake home made delicious. Very reasonably priced which makes a change. Excellent service. Went there after visiting Compton Castle as no cafe there, Castle Barton just opposite. Lovely location.

We stumbled across this quaint place after visiting the National Trust property opposite. Compton Castle doesn’t seem to have its own tea room but this made a welcome alternative with delicious cakes, flapjacks and a refreshing pot of tea all enjoyed in their sunny hillside garden.

Enjoyed an absolutely delicious Devon cream tea here on a rainy afternoon (would have been lovely to sit out in the garden on a sunny day). Good, friendly service too. This place is perfect for refreshments or something more substantial if you're visiting the NT's Compton Castle, which is just over the lane and doesn't have a tea shop or kiosk. It is old fashioned inside but don't let that put you off!

Wonderful family run tea room / cafe set in a beautiful setting, with lovely gardens & outside seating overlooking the woods and countryside around Compton Castle. The cakes and drinks were perfect on our visit, the people serving were friendly & welcoming and the interior was a traditional English tea room decor, timeless and charming in it's own unique way. Recommended to call in at especially if visiting Compton Castle across the road.
Delightful afternoon at Castle Barton Restaurant. A quirky 'grandma's dining room' vibe and delicious food at a very reasonable price. Will be heading back there very shortly to enjoy another chocolate roulade with real clotted cream, though the brie & tomato brushetta and game pie were just as good!

Great find. Really lovely family run restaurant. Set in beautiful surroundings. Outside and inside seating available. Bit of a climb up steps and a slope to get to it but well worth it when you see the beautiful listed building. There is also a holiday home attached to the restaurant. Sit and enjoy your meal whilst listening to the local wildlife, what could be better than that. ?? ??☘️?⚘️????

It's an 80s menu prepared by someone who knows what they're doing, much of the menu is prepared in house. Service is a little slow but polite and professional. Sensible prices. There is a lovely garden if the sun is out.

Quiet near in our B&B... Unforgettable place to visit! But not really much to look in there!
