A traditional pub with great local beer from Branscombe Brewery, flagstone floor and a welcoming fire. Great service and food too!

Upon entering this establishment one is immediately greeted with warmth. No, not from the fire blazing in the grate (although, granted, that does give off some convective pleasance), but from the radiant bar staff who upon glimpsing a thirsty traveller at their ancient threshold immediately spring into action pouring all sorts of delicious locally brewed beverage into freshly polished glasses adorning the bar. At the time of our visit one kindly local steered us toward the correct drinks, which did not include 'Branoch' for reasons unknown. We drank and otherwise indulged and generally made merry with our kinfolk, and in the end made a barter for some more firewood for the reasonable price of a rum and coke before spilling into the cold night, loose and satisfied. Highly recommended.

If you want a proper honest village pub then go here. They do not overcharge, are in no way pretentious and are not out to rip you off. Good beer and food like pub food used to be before everyone became a gastronaut. If you want restaurant food go down the road and help St Austell Brewery fill their coffers, if you want a village local pub experience go to the Fountain Head. All in my opinion of course.

We came across The Fountain Head by chance, and were extremely glad that we did. Great service, a great meal and good beer. Highly recommended.

An old-fashioned local pub that hasn't changed much over the last twenty odd years when I've occasionally visited it. The food is not fancy but very good, the locally brewed beer is excellent, and the staff are efficient and friendly. It really is like stepping back into simpler, more honest times. The parking's difficult though. (If you're heading out of Branscombe, you need to fork left before the pub and look for the modest parking area on the right just in front of the pub.)

Just a wonderful unspoilt village pub with great food and ales in an exquisite setting. Car parking can be a challenge but there is a bus service!

Ignore Google. It’s got all the opening times wrong. Ring them. They are probably open. Lovely atmosphere. Fish and chips were delicious. Nice old pub with very nice staff.

It's a good place for drinks and food and it's relaxing

Excellent, ignore those who review comparing it with a city centre plastic gastro pub. It's not, they serve proper beer, proper food in a traditional setting with service based upon how you behave!!

This is a pretty pub with lots of character and charm, situated in a picturesque village. It has the potential to be an absolutely amazing venue. It’s a shame then, that the host on the day we arrived wasn’t at all welcoming. Having walked to Branscombe on the coastal path for 3 hours (on a glorious hot Summer day) we had worked up quite a thirst. We arrived at exactly 3 pm to be told (not very politely) that the bar was closed (despite there being a good number of locals in there with drinks). OK, arguably it was our own fault for not checking opening hours and assuming (wrongly) that a pub in a popular tourist area would be open on a Saturday afternoon during the high season. At the same time, the host could have shown some discretion. The published closing time was 3 pm so he could have served us a drink and allowed us to sit outside (which we would have have been happy to do). The pub is licensed to serve all day so we felt it mean spirited to turn us away. We left thirsty and bitter with a distinct feeling that if you are not a local then you are not welcome here. We instead went to the pub down the road, where we received a friendly reception and lovely pint of Branscombe Brewery beer. We’ll only likely return here if there is a change of ownership. What a pity.
