I stumbled into this cafe, and the atmosphere was as lively as a library on a Monday morning. The lady behind the counter seemed to have mistaken smiles for endangered species, as not a single one graced her face. The sausage bap had the charm of a cardboard sandwich, and the taste lingered in my mouth like a distant memory of regret. The fish and chips tasted like they had been rescued from the frozen aisle of Iceland – a flavor experience akin to licking a postage stamp. This standard of fish and chips for a cafe on a seaside town is unacceptable! If misery and mediocrity had a culinary lovechild, it would be this cafe.

visited this place today for a breakfast and i dont think i have ever been made to not be welcome from the minute we all walked in, the staff or even maybe the owner made it clear they really wished they didnt get cutomers in there establishment. every thing seemed to be an efford to serve us, when ordering the lady that served us was rude and came across that she wished not to be there, when asking for simple requests for breakfast we where responded by "if i have to attitude" felt as if they didnt want customers. 100% not a very welcoming place to go will not be returning or recommending for all of us again

My husband and I have just had another lovely meal in Hughsies. We have used this cafe when on holiday in Seaton for a number of years. I must say despite the many negative reviews we have never had a problem. Hope to have at least one more meal before the end of our holiday.

The woman who served us was sullen and unfriendly. We ordered cod and chips which tasted like cheap frozen food and the cod was rubbery in texture, definitely wouldn't recommend.

We like to support independent small businesses but sadly not this one. The waitress is very unhappy in her job. We felt uncomfortable seeing how she spoke to people and she made it clear everything was too much trouble. Having now read the other reviews, we realise this was not an uncommon event. As there are plenty of other places in the area to visit, we shall not be returning.

I’m sorry to pay £20 + in total for what was Birds Eye cod& chips, tea for two 1 portion of bread & Marge is simply not good enough! To cap it all , to be served by such an unsmiling, rude to other customers was to say the the final straw.Breakfast may be good lunch was not!

Terrible service. Horrible decor. Awful food. Probably the worst cafe I have EVER been to. Will never go back. The place gives me the shivers thinking about it. Please avoid if you can. Pebbles just down the road is much better: warm, welcoming, clean, and the same price! They also charge 50p for a glass of water?!? Horrendous

Perfectly adequate breakfast at a reasonable price. Nice strong tea appreciated with extra hot water. Served to your table with all the warmth of a wet November morning. Furnished clean but sterile.

The breakfast was lovely came out hot and was overall a great breakfast however the staff are the most miserable people I have ever had the displeasure to meet the woman serving is miserable never smiles never talks , and never starts a conversation and having the positivity and politeness to ask “how are you”. It feels like you don’tBelong and they want you gone. To be honest it’s as if they are forced to work in their and they absolutely hate it. Do not go here, it’s a real shame about the staff , will not be going here again. Usually it’s the food ruining it, now it’s the staff.

We have been here before and it's very good for choice of food. Also there were some smaller portions available on some items. Very friendly staff.

Don't waste your time, money, or energy going here. The food was barely passable at best, and outright rancid at worst. Other reviews have mentioned the chips specifically being absolutely appaling, which I can attest to; out of the corner of my eye, I saw my order being put into a deep fat frier straight out of a freezer. The waitress was perhaps the most miserable individual I have ever had the displeasure of meeting and the "chef" didn't appear to be much better. Rude behaviour, a lack of temper, and a generally repulsive atmosphere seem like they're the norm here and I am convinced that the poor residents of Seaton are forever plagued by the two zombies who reside here, who could do with either a career change, retirement, relationship councelling, or ideally all three. This could explain a lot about Henry Stenner; perhaps he's related to the two ghouls who staff the place.Completely ruined our short visit to this otherwise rather pleasant seaside town. Consider it an quarantined area; avoid if at all possible.

Very rude staff. Would not serve a pensioner with a cup of tea without a full meal. Used to be a lovely cafe years ago.
