Fabulous hotel right on the seafront. Service brilliant and fantastic food with a good choice of dishes. Special dietary needs are catered for very well. This is our third visit to this hotel. Sidmouth itself is a lovely seaside town either a good range of independent shops as well as high street chains.

A delightful gem of a hotel with excellent food and service in the restaurant. Not quite full silver service but very close. A very rare thing these days. I honestly couldn't fault our stay

Thoroughly enjoyed my week at this traditional family-run hotel. It's in an ideal location on the seafront, just a couple of strides from the beach and the town centre with all its shops and amenities. Came here on a coach holiday, and although it was very busy, we received a warm welcome and a speedy check-in and porter service. The hotel dates from 1810 (apparently the first real hotel in Sidmouth) and is full of character and charm. The three lounges are beautifully furnished, with a few genuine antiques and grandfather clocks that chime throughout the day. There were books and magazines for us to read, jigsaw puzzles and games. My room was up on the third floor (the third flight of stairs was a bit narrow and twisty but there is a lift). A standard single room but very clean, with lovely contemporary decor and a nice view, firm but comfortable bed, teamaking facilities, hairdryer, decent sized TV screen and a big welcome pack crammed with useful info about the hotel and nearby places to visit. Clean bathroom with a shower over the bath. Efficient optional room service. Hearty breakfasts with fruit, juices, cereals, porridge, and a choice of traditional English cooked breakfast, kippers or finnan haddock. It was nice to have waiter service instead of having to queue to serve ourselves! The four course evening meals were excellent, three or four choices including a vegetarian option, imaginatively prepared and presented, portions just right, and some scrumptious desserts! Drinks were served at the table. Waiters were so friendly and attentive. No dietary request was too much trouble for them. After dinner we enjoyed our coffee and mints in the spacious bar lounge with its self playing piano and beautiful sea view. There was entertainment on two evenings and a quiz on another. We were well looked after throughout our entire stay, and on the evening before we checked out, we could order a delicious sandwich to take on our homeward journey for only £3. Would definitely recommend this hotel!

This hotel is delightful. All the staff were so friendly and we had top service. Food was imaginative and very good. Location great - right by the sea. Exclusive use of spa was lovely way to relax into the long weekend. A pleasure to stay at this family run hotel.

Lovely hotel, very friendly staff and spotlessly clean. Food was fantastic - it was such a relaxing time even though we only stayed 3 nights. Room had sea view and was very comfortable. Will certainly be returning and recommending hotel to others.

Went to this hotel last week for a 5 day break. Can’t speak highly enough of it. The location is great, on the sea front with lots of seating along the way, the staff are all lovely and cannot do enough to help you.We had bed breakfast and evening meal, food very enjoyable with choice for every course.Accommodation was clean and comfortable and had been tastefully updated. All in all a very pleasant experience which we hope to repeat in the not too distant future.Jesmond Fan

We have just returned from our 1st fabulous stay at the Royal York and Falkner Hotel. The hotel was great, several comfortable lounges. Fabulous food with a good selection to meet everyone's taste. The staff were wonderful. We shall definitely be back.

Stayed here for two nights and was disappointed with the cleanliness of the room, very dusty, bathroom very dated, no dressing gowns, breakfast was ok but when arrived not what we ordered, dirty windows, bathroom door not fitting properly and extremely overpriced. I did not want to complain on the day as I didn’t want to upset my wife who booked the hotel for two nights. I certainly would not stay here again nor I would recommend the Royal York Hotel.

Great location, a few yards from the sea. You can pay more and get a room with a balcony facing the sea. Most of the guests were elderly which was great for me as it was very quiet. Young people might feel it dreary. Staff friendly and helpful. Only quibble, not a lot for vegetarians or vegans but their guests probably don't often want that.
