Wonderful place. I have not stayed in the hotel but I have eaten here many times. The restaurant is pretty nice with good views over Tavistock church, however this hotel really excels in the bar areas in which the full menu I also served - wonderful leather/leatherette arm chairs, lovely traditional paintings in the wall etc. The menu is solid, the mains are tasty, i personally recommend the sausages and battered fish and treacle pie for dessert. I really love the ambiance and yes it's pricey but for an afternoon, it's highly recommended. I should also reference the excellent service. There was a delay in receiving my order and I was comped a tea. Really great proactive service.

Lunchtime visit for pre booked Christmas meal. Excellent service, and efficient. No issues for any of the group, it's a lovely setting.

Poor customer care, no assistance to carry luggage up two flights of stairs to room 33 for the elderly 82 +76 staff at there wits end on reception Management Issues, and as for half a slice of black pudding and the smallest full English I remain

Nice Old British Hotel....Just a bit overpriced for the area....Parking is 8 Pounds per night...Walkability: In the center of town ??

I hesitate to give a negative review especially for a hotel which has been in the same family for many years, and one I enjoyed in the past. For splendour and position there is none to beat it in the town, so with these benefits why have standards slipped. Are Covid, the cost of living, the shortage of staff contributed to its demise? but if you will pardon the phrase, the buck stops with management. This hotel deserves more love than it is getting. Rooms are dowdy, carpets worn and dirty and a general air of a long forgotten railway station after the trains have departed.I'm being hard on the Bedford because it could be so much more and the old girl deserves it. I hope the owners take note, and next time I visit Tavistock I can eat my words.

A quality hotel with professional, personable staff who create a nice vibe about the place. The hotel looked after 14 of us providing comfortable rooms, a well stocked in-house bar and a delicious three course in-house meal chosen from a menu of dishes. The rooms also contained a bath with integral shower and tea, coffee facilities with a biscuit to round it off.The style of the hotel is akin to, Accor's charming MGallery brand. The hotel is located in delightful Tavistock use as a break in itself or base for the wider area. Our group arrived via Okehampton Railway station which has a useful Rail Link bus 118 leaving from the station and will drop you right outside the hotel. Although Tavistock lacks a Railway Station it does have an excellent bus station a short walk from the hotel. I believe car parking is available at the hotel but check this out if required.

We couldn’t have opted for a better place to get married, from the first time we went to look at the venue all the way up to our wedding the staff were absolutely incredible. I would especially like to thank Hannah it was a pleasure to have her as our wedding organiser she helped us day and night from the very start and I would just like to say a huge thank you to her. The venue was amazing, wonderful, beautiful, idyllic, and just simply amazing. I would highly recommend to have your wedding or any other events here we will be sure to returning in the future. In the middle of Tavistock, this Haven of tranquility provides an excellent example of traditional service with modern amenities. We used the Bedford during the busiest time for Tavistock, 'the Goose Fair" and got the same service as always.

Attended a wedding reception there, both staff and food were excellent. Well done to all.

We had an Afternoon tea voucher given to us for Christmas. Activated the voucher online and then booked with the hotel for that week. Car park around the back with a lift up to the main floor for disabled visitors. Afternoon tea ready for us on arrival. Can't fault the staff or the Afternoon tea. Will definitely be back.
