Wonderful food. Really enjoyable. I would have liked a few more beer options but it was really fun to relax and let the food come.

Loved the food, and the service was spot on. Not overly warm in the restaurant, though.

I rarely review but this is one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to, whether Devon or London. Excellent fresh local produce and generous service (you get delicious complementary starters and petit fours). A must go if you want to experience the best of food around here.

What can I say except wow! Totally amazing food, balance of flavours, textures & smells, all with the use of foraged foods, we had the tasting menu both the normal menu & a the vegetable one for my wife, which were both phenomenal.... I suspect this place will be very hard to get in fairly soon, well worth the visit.... Top

Holy cow! This place is heaven, we went here earlier in the year for our wedding meal, had the taster menu which was incredible and have been back for the 3 course meal (you get aperitif and petit fours as well!). The food is so so good and mostly locally sourced or foraged. Service is smart and friendly. The guys in the kitchen are doing a grand job, such inventive and delicious dishes!

Fantastic food and fantastic service Nice atmosphere inside. The set menu is an excellent price. A very special meal that I will remember. A serious competitor to seahorse or Andria in Dartmouth!

This was a very pleasant surprise! the young chefs presented each dish beautifully and combined the flavours to a gastronomic supremacy. The taster menu was a real treat and enjoyed by the whole family. Very friendly staff and will definitely repeat the experience.

First time visit to Gather and I was blown away. A festive fixed price menu that can only be described as an utter bargain. Hake with a champagne oyster sauce and celeriac purée, partridge in an exquisite jus with poached pair and a delicious sprout melange, a mince pie and truckle cheddar, and a ganache filled choux with pannetone ice cream. Plus hors d’oeuvres and petit fours. £50. I kid you not. I mean really, this was beyond any expectations you can have for a Christmas meal. I wish I had had the time for the wine flyte to go with it. Bear in mind too this is an extremely young team - amazing professionals for their age. And the restaurant staff knew their stuff and were attentive and friendly.

Voucher gift received from my son and his wife. Delightful waitress on hand to answer any menu questions, mix cocktails, serve us the exquisite food chosen from one of 3 menus and clear the plates in a graceful manner. The whole experience was delightful. The loo could perhaps do with an artist’s touch!

Had hight hope hopes as we’d booked for an anniversary dinner but sadly we were left disappointed. After 40 mins our drinks hadn’t arrived and we had to ask twice for our drinks, along with getting some water for the table. Food took approximately 40 mins to arrive between courses and ranged from delicious to extremely average, to unpleasant. In fairness the staters and mains were nice when they finally arrived but the mince pie pastry was like concrete and the chocolate tort desert didn’t taste like chocolate. It was just texture with an acrid marmalade taste. We left before receiving the last dish as by that point it was 10:30pm and we’d been in there for 3 hours and our enjoyment by that point and just turned into irritation. The staff seemed inexperienced and inattentive which didn’t marry up with the “fine dining” experience and price tag. We won’t be returning.

We wanted to try this restaurant after seeing it featured on 'Remarkable Places to Eat' on the TV. We booked early for a Thursday evening with a plan to have the set menu. Lovely simply styled restaurant with a glimpse into the kitchen. Two lovely girls waiting. We had a good look at all the menus but decided to stick with the set menu. Bread and amuse bouche excellent as was the cocktail and beer. We thoroughly enjoyed all the food and really could not criticise anything. We will definitely be returning.

The restaurant is comfortable, intimate and inviting - with a half-curtained window to the bustling street and a wide service window that provides glimpses into the kitchen where the inventive young Chef/Owner team are busy working their magic. A variety of menus are on offer including a Prix Fixe 2 or 3-course menu from £32.50. I opted for the £75 Vegetable Tasting Menu which featured 7 courses together with bread, amuse bouches and petit fours. By the end of my meal, I certainly wasn’t hungry and I felt that it really lived up to the anticipated ‘fine dining’ experience. Gather describes its offer as showcasing locally sourced and wild foraged ingredients from fields, shoreline, rivers and hedgerows and this yields a menu that, for a Vegetarian is an absolute delight, featuring all manner of flora and fauna including sea greens, herbs, nettles, mushrooms, nuts, seeds and flowers. Each dish was inventive… technically accomplished and artistically presented. Perhaps the greatest compliment I can pay these Chefs is to say that there is nothing ‘typical’ or mainstream about the food. All too often, I find myself paying high restaurant prices for food that is uninspired and as ordinary and familiar as one would cook at home for a mid-week supper. Not here. It’s impossible to anticipate what every surprising mouthful will taste like and everything on the plate has been carefully considered to enhance your tasting experience.
