I like to attend this pub on a Friday evening. I have been there four times. I drive down to the pub from Bath. It is without doubt the friendliest and atmospheric pub I've ever visited. Simone the landlady is extremely welcoming and friendly. The drinks are great and the music fantastic. It's worth the long drive from Bath. Must be one of the best pubs on the planet.

Had an amazing week stay at this gem of a pub nestled on the edge of Dartmoor.I strongly recommend a visit ! There is few pubs like this still around and the atmosphere is second to none. Our host was friendly, helpful and informative. Loved every second and will be returning!

There are very few pubs left as authentic as this : in a beautiful part of Devon surrounded by lovely walks. Warm :comfortable :two fires blazing and Simone is a welcoming host. Didn’t try food but menu is impressive : all cooked by a trained chef.

Very quaint, traditional interiors with fantastic music and open fire. Simone the landlady was really friendly and had some great stories to share. Friendly locals too.Quite steep steps from the carpark if you have limited mobility. We didn't eat but the food looked terrific.Dietary restrictions: Lovely, home cooked food but not for customers with dietary restrictions or wanting vegan choices.Wheelchair accessibility: I wouldn't say this is an ideal venue for customers with mobility issues.
We had a lovely stay and were made to feel extremely welcome.Simone made ua feel very welcome and took an interest in the reason for our stay. The pub has a lovely atmosphere. We stayed overnight and the room was clean and comfortable.Dinner and breakfast was delicious and a fine example of proper home cooked food.Would definitely recommend and will be back.Nothing was too much trouble.Vegetarian options: Simon ensures that she caters for all dietery requirements

I don't usually post reviews on both Google and TripAdvisor but feel the need for this glorious and totally unspoilt pub. A proper locals' freehouse pub. Rustic and unpretentious which is the whole point of its attraction. A rare breed in this day of chains and gastro pubs. Delicious pub grub. Cosy. Log fires. Doggy friendly. Obviously. Welcoming Simone. Thankyou my lovely. We plan to return with The Americans. Show them how it's done!TripAdvisor Torbayaotearoa ?? ??Whoops! I am mistaken. 10 stars surely?

Featured in the Good Pub Guide and Devon Live. A glorious rustic pub deep in the glorious Devon countryside. Totally unspoilt and that's the beauty of it. Gravity real ales. Absolutely delicious pub grub which is locally sourced. Doggy friendly. Log fires. Not for the uninitiated. Not for the pretentious. Stay away Tim Martin. A proper locals' freehouse. Outside men's privie where it should be. Thankyou welcoming Simone. Keep going my lovely and keep the predators away. Dear all locals, support this gem on your doorstep. ????

We stayed in the holiday cottage opposite and loved this cute, traditional pub. Simone, the landlady, was so welcoming and gave us tips to find local attractions (our boys are still talking about Shilly pool!). Lovely ale, delicious lamb shank and scampi in massive portions and really friendly people. We will be back soon and thanks for making us feel at home.
