Had the worst steak today I’ve ever had! If a chef can’t cook a steak then I would suggest they find a new job. I did complain and it was not charged for but the meal was ruined by then. After reading some of the newest reviews I would conclude a new chef is definitely due. The bar staff and waiting staff were very good. A great place for a drink with friends but not for food.

Came here for Christmas lunch. Booked a month in advance, including our food orders. It looks like some genius decided to try and serve all guests, 200+ people, all at the same time.Arrived for lunch at 12:30, starter arrived 13:30, main arrived 14:30. It's now 15:30 and I'm still waiting for dessert to arrive.I cannot begin to understand how you could make such a mess of a Christmas dinner.

Very comfortable and welcoming bar, dining room and common room.

Came for Christmas dinner, the room was decorated lovely, the atmosphere was good, the food was what we expected and nice but 4 hours for service. I think something new was tried but didn’t quite workout.

A large group of us went for Sunday Lunch. The setting was nice with a good atmosphere and staff were very nice and attentive. The beef had good flavour, we all found it to be quite tough. Good portion size and variety. The plates were hot but the food was only just warm which is a shame but it may have been because there were so many of us.

Midweek dinner. Place nearly empty except one large table of 20. Plenty of staff yet we waited 20mins+ for service, similar for drinks and then again for the bill. We had to go to the bar to pay in the end. 75% of menu items were unavailable although the burger, pie and fish and chips were all fine when they eventually arrived. Overall - appalling level of service provision for an early December midweek visit. Such as shame as the venue is very pleasant - but will not be visiting again.

Didn't stay overnight, but the bar is great - roomy and nostalgic with excellent mulled wine, good selection of spirits and a choice of gastro-pub dishes across various menus, depending on the time of day - fun, multi-aged atmosphere a little like a traditional Irish bar. Worth a visit.

Beautiful place, had stopped serving food at 9pm though and was told I wasn't allowed cocktails off the menu as it finished at 9 (it was 9.04pm) I think they could have been a bit more

Lovely garden to sit in and enjoy a drink in the evening. Had food once which was nice, but the table wasn't cleaned in between the last guests leaving and us. Service was slow outside. Drinks expensive.

Wow, this place is such a gem. We only visited for a meal and drinks but we had such a fantastic time. The restaurant is set in a stunning room with skylight and beautiful tall ceiling and historic feel. The staff couldn't do enough for us. They were just so attentive and helpful. The manager had a lovely chat with us and the staff were all smiling, friendly and helpful. Can't say enough great things. The fish and chips has the wow factor. The fish cooked perfectly and so white. Make sure you're hungry, superb portionThank you.

Cosy and comfy with lovely fire lit. However, food was poor. £6.75 for a ham and cheese toastie, which had gristle running through the ham and was poorly presented. It wasn't even cut in half.Coffees served were stone cold. They replaced it without question, but I've never been served cold coffee. It's a real shame because it's a pleasant environment to spend time in. Would be reluctant to eat there again.Visited back in January, and it was far better in every way.Overall disappointing.Food & drinks: See photo
