Lovely clean and well set it out pub ,good music, great atmosphere .good selection of beers and cider etc. Friendly staff and we both had the Vegetable Lasagne with salad and baked Ciabatta. The lasagne was the best I have ever had, with the most unckious sauce and I could easily have just had a bowl of the delicious salad as that was superb. What more could you want great tasting food with a cold pint in a warm pub on a cold winters day. Top marks.Highly recommend and to top it off there's 10%of drinks and 20% off food in January 2024.Get yourselves down then and try it for yourselvesVegetarian options: Such a good choice of meals, never had so much choice, hats off to you . we will be back . This was a nice surprise. We had booked to stay a few months ago and have just left. It's a lovely little pub and lovely spacious rooms. Martin is really friendly and helpful, the housekeeper is also just as lovely. The place is nice and clean. I have read the previous reviews for here and we had a complete different experience. Nothing was too much hassle. We will definitely return

What a pleasant surprise. Visited the old ship inn with some caution after reading the current reviews, the price of our room was the attraction as it’s the cheapest in the area. The pub has been refurbished to a very high standard, and our room ( a twin) was equally finished to a very high standard and exceptionally clean and fresh. The only negative we have is that the time of our visit, breakfast was not available due to the kitchen undergoing a refit. We ventured down stairs to the pub for a drink again very nicely refurbished with a neat sunny beer garden. We were shocked as all the comments on this site were not favourable at all. After speaking to the very friendly locals we were a lightened to the reason for the derogatory comments. It seems that the previous owners were ask to leave the premises for whatever reason and have embarked on a hate campaign against the current landlords and brewery. Our advice is give this place a chance, we found it exceptional value for money ( drinks are very cheap) the staff and locals are so friendly and helpful, they could not do enough for us. Good luck to the new team and business. Continue as you are doing, the people slating you need to grow up. We will be back Heather & mark

AVOID!!! Totally disgusting place!!! Looked like the place hadn't been cleaned from the night before as drink spillages all over the bar and tables.... Downed my drink asap and left!!! Where did the proprietor's find these 2 to manage their pub??
Gone down hill since Michelle & Andy were running it. Not the same welcoming atmosphere. It’s actually the complete opposite. New landlord runs down previous landlords who were very well liked here. Won’t be returning while these people are running it.

Current landlord isn't pleasant and is acting horribly online which is rather unproffesional. You also can't get food which is very dissappointing as last landlords offered lovely food and were very nice people.

This is a great pub. It's in the centre of Dorchester, the drink prices are very cheap, and since it has been under new management (Michelle and Andy), the place has a lovely, warm, friendly atmosphere.We had my fiancée's birthday drinks there recently, and Michelle and Andy made it very special-even putting up banners and balloons.They have regular live music playing - which Dorchester desperately needs.A very welcoming place to be in....which is now our new local pub ??
