Nice little cafe. You may have to wait or book a table. Aimed more so at locals and ots not the sort of cafe I'd take a chance on and just turn up. Friendly staff. Had a small roast. Broccoli & cabbage was under done to the point where it was crunchy... Will I go back? no. I've noticed that Portlanders don't make an effort with anything business wise. We'll behind the times. Not child friendly. Not for dogs or the disabled. It's job getting in the door.

Good home cooked to my liking as i am very fussy eater. And a big plus side for me were the Hot plates.Excellent.

Not fine dining.....but definitely good grub. Generously portioned homemade and homecooked dishes. Steak pie with veg and roast potatoes was more than I could finish and as a butchers son I'm picky about the quality of meat used. Great value at £10. Won't be our last visit..."we'll be back"!!

We spent a week on business on Portland island, recommended this lovely restaurant for breakfast. We were not disappointed lovely large brekkie reasonably price, great coffee and friendly staff. A charming cafe like going back in time, but that was its charm, will definitely be returning

6 of us ladies went for a Christmas ? evening meal. The food and staff were fantastic. We were made to feel welcome and like nothing was too much trouble. The table was decorated, and we had Christmas crackers. The fire ? was roaring and topped up to keep us warm on a very cold night. Thank you Sugarloaf we had a lovely time. Also very cheap for a 3 course meal.

Portland’s best kept food secret. I almost didn’t want to write this review as the Sugar Loaf is such a wonderful traditional British cafe with great food, a cozy atmosphere (love the open fire or when it’s warmer the courtyard garden), fair prices and friendly staff I don’t want it to be too busy ?. Recommended.

Lovely place. Wish it opened for evening meals. Could have music and candle light but lovely as it is for coffee during the day .

Shown to a very messy table, had to ask to have it wiped, the cloth the waitress used to clean it smelt terrible and it was dirty, it was off putting but we stayed. I had a beef dinner which was good, my husband had a full breakfast was also good. We had desserts, the crumble was very wet and undercooked, I hardly touched it, I informed the waitress who did not offer me an alternative and proceeded to add it to the bill which I questioned. It made me feel uncomfortable but they should have dealt with it better. We have been here many times before over many years, but feel it has gone down hill, especially the cleanliness and service over time ?‍♀️
