I stayed there on the 12/12/2023. The hotel itself is fine and the room is very comfortable. Breakfast is also quite good. But this is the thing, I forgot my vanity case didn’t realise till I was about to make my next trip on 1/1/ 2024 called the hotel and they told me the wife had the case and tried to call me she couldn’t get through so she put it in the bin. The vanity case and contents was worth more than £400. I really don’t know what to say.

Very highly recommended. A delicious Christmas Day dinner from the Christmas Meal at Home menu. A Takeaway with a difference. This is our 6th Meal at Home and it has never disappointed. The presentation of the dishes in the basket was thoughtfully done, accompanied by reheating instructions, crackers, tree decorations and a Christmas card. The food was attractively served in the microwaveable dishes, so we had to be careful in moving them into overproof dishes as we didn't use the microwave. The crab and haddock chowder was silky and delicious, and the little home-made dough balls a delight. Our turkey, vegetables and trimmings were all excellent, despite its being not easy to reheat a main course without spoiling it - very brave of you to entrust this to someone at home! Christmas puddings were perfect, with a delicate brandy sauce that set them off nicely. Portions the right size for this type of meal. We succumbed to temptation and ate the mince pies on Christmas Eve! The pastry was light and just the right amount of crumbliness.

We had the pleasure of dining in this beautiful restaurant and it certainly met our expectations (and some) … the food was incredible … especially the grapefruit marinated salmon & lobster … the service was perfection as well … and the environment was so relaxing and inviting … we all throughly enjoyed our evening here and hope to return again at some point … it was everything we hoped it would be … thank-you so much for the most perfect experience … and keep doing what your doing as it’s the best!!!

I was invited here for a birthday meal having grown up in Shaftesbury it was great to go back. We read the menu on line and I was looking forward to our evening as we literally liked everything on the menu from front to back cover. We were greeted at the door by what i believe was the head chef and co owner and it was a very warm welcome and made us very relaxed. The drinks and nibbles before we went to the table were a great touch. Now the meal service and presentation were just another level as was the food itself and I don’t say that lightly as you will see in our reviews we have been lucky enough to have traveled the world and eaten in some fantastic and not so good places. The staff and wife(co owner) of the head chef was great to talk to and fully understands customer care,service and satisfaction. I am so pleased we ate here and are going to return soon. Having put their name in to Trip Advisor and found them at no1 we were not surprised and totally deserved by them well done and thank you…❤️

Faultless service, food and wine. A wonderful evening. We had fantastic starters of crab cakes with roasted scallops and the smoked duck. Mains were the sole and the beef. Dessert consisted of the soufflé and the chocolate box. Each were sublime. The wine list is extensive and reasonable with a great choice including half bottles. The service was attentive yet subtle and we were not rushed at any point. It really was an evening to remember.

This place is a pure delight! Beautiful food, hosts are attentive and staff very helpful. The attention to detail and service is outstanding. Rooms are clean and comfortable and even have a small fridge! The location is handy to everything and very quiet. Highly recommended

This is a charming hotel which is run by a friendly and engaging couple. I chose to stay here because of its excellent reputation as a restaurant and the food and service lived up to that reputation. I stayed on my own for 2 nights and suspect that is why I was given the room with a window that faces a brick wall. It was small but comfortably appointed.? . Avoid the “Sauvignon” room if possible. A charming hotel conveniently on the edge of town which I plan to stay at again.

This is a longstanding fine dining establishment with a well deserved reputation for excellence. We were welcomed with drinks and nibbles in the lounge bar and selected our meals from an extensive and thoughtful menu, before being shown to our table.. All our meals were cooked perfectly and accompanied by appropriate side dishes. It’s a long time since we encountered fine dining and this dinner made us aware of what we are missing. Thank you to the owners who gave us this memorable meal. You obviously care immensely about your craft.

No 1 for customer experience/service and value for money. Really made to feel welcome and all staff set out to please. Would return again based on this alone. Food experience was great, but missed out on excellent due to starter that did not quite hit the mark and undercooked roasties. Otherwise recommended to visitors and locals alike.

What a gem in Shaftsbury! We stayed here for one night to celebrate our anniversary Upon arrival we were given a warm welcome The room was lovely and the bed very comfortable - tea and coffee facilities plus complimentary home made biscuits a nice touch The restaurant was excellent - Unfortunately our diets went out the window that night! From the starter to the coffee the food was faultless (as was the service) The next morning the breakfast was of a similar standard We will be staying here again!
