Went for Sunday lunch - excellent home cooked food and home made puddings. A very enjoyable, step back in time (in a good way)

THE GEORGE is a gem. I've been going there for years, with my old dad (who lives locally), The owner and staff are friendly and welcoming, the food is very good and reasonably priced, and you're in the oldest pub in Sherborne. The atmosphere is great. I would recommend The George to anyone. It's also in a great location... right at the top of Cheap Street (Sherborne's "high street"). Long may The George continue!Parking: Most of the time, you can park right outside on the street (with a time limit) but there are plenty of other parking options very close by at the top of the high street.

Had one of the best burgers and chips I have had for a very long time. Perfect Chips with some body, and a lovely tasty burger. Good service by friendly staff, especially as I was just s walk in. Would go again.

A very welcoming and cozy pub and restaurant with great food - and they were dog friendly in the bar area.

The food was excellent, the only reason I give 4 and not 5 *, is because online and on the menu given out, it says cauliflower cheese with vegetables and new potatoes, but it came without potatoes, and when I asked told that it did not come with potatoes. But the meal was nice, just would have been 100% with potatoes.Vegetarian options: Several choices, best to look on the net or the pubs site

We hadn't booked but we're welcomed the service and food was excellent and value for money.

Called in for lunch served by a very friendly lady. Hubby had the faggots on the specials menu and I had the fish and chips both of which were excellent. Lovely traditional pub

Nipped in for a quiet pint and some 'pub' food - and not disappointed! Caring and courteous attention from the nice lady who was greeting and serving all customers very efficiently - and single-handed, at that! Varied menu at value-for-money prices - had cod and chips which was very good in terms quality, preparation and size; although the plate was a touch on the small side to accommodate the meal comfortably. Beer was good, too. I'm not keen on dogs in dining areas but, like so many pubs these days; by commercial necessity, they allow dogs in. These are restricted, however, to the bar area only. I do not visit Sherborne often but when next I'm there I'll return to the George, for sure. Thanks to all the staff.

Visiting Sherborne on a very rainy day, with a 91 year old in need of a sit down, and a very large, very wet dog. Was welcomed into the dry bar area and had a very reasonably priced and very delicious, well presented lunch. Friendly staff… what more can you ask for! Thank you!

Having stopped at the George about a year ago just for a bite of lunch, we returned on a spur of the moment visit while traveling near Sherborne and looking for somewhere for dinner. We were so pleased we did! Once again the welcome was warm and friendly, the beer well kept and the menu provided plenty of options to choose from. Although one of the recent 'very warm days' I can never resist a roast dinner, especially when Lamb is one of the options (which is rather rare now days!), while my wife opted for a steak and ale pie. Both were delicious and very reasonably priced, so much so that I was surprised when I was informed that my roast included a pudding! Well we left totally satisfied, full to gunnels and promising to return next time we're in Sherborne. Thanks again the George Team, keep doing what you're doing!

The George is a wonderful old-fashioned pub with good beer, good wine and good food. You'll get a friendly welcome from the regulars (I'm one) and the lovely bar staff. This is the sort of heart-warming pub we all knew years ago, but that are now few and far between. If you are in Sherborne, don't miss it.
