I have not been to this pub for many years. After seeing it advertised in a local paper I looked up the menu and liked what I saw. I have now had lunch with my wife there and we were very impressed. It is an old interesting pub (look at the ceiling in the bar) it is cosy, comfortable and pleasantly decorated. The dining room at the back of the pub is very pleasant with far reaching views over the garden. The welcome was warm and friendly, the beer well kept. The menu is varied and caters for most tastes. There was also an addition to the menu of a Jamaican dish. We could not fault the food, it is probably the best meal I have had for some time. As for cost, in most places I know you would have to add another third to the bill. Well worth a visit.

My wife and I enjoyed the best pub meal we have had in years and was excellent value for money. We both had Jamaican Jerk chicken with rice and potato salad and we couldn't get over how good it was, all this sitting by a roaring log fire. The pub itself has recently been refurbished but still contains it's original features. The landlord and the waiter were both extremely pleasant and the service is what we would expect in years gone by. The only reason that I gave atmosphere 4/5 was I expected the pub to be full of customers on a Friday evening and it was fairly quiet when we were there. Definitely a pub where we will frequent especially sitting out in the summer evenings.

We were a party of 7, and booked because we were taking my son out for a meal for his 10th birthday . My wife and sister had the duck special , I had burger, my dad had mixed grill and kids had sausage and chips. Everyone very happy with their food and we were sat by the fire in a cosy corner. Really liked the ambient lighting and Peter and staff looked after us with drinks and food. The beer (copper) was really great - beer is clearly well looked after - my dad i and got through 6 pints! Toilets were good standard. Basically we had a lovely evening and I’m looking forward to visiting again. James

Excellent local pub in the small village of Manston. We popped in for lunch and are so glad that we did.The hosts were brilliant and very welcoming, allowing for our dog and baby. The food was excellent, especially the Jerk Chicken (a special on at the time).Dog friendly pub, with treats on offer of your dog isn't a fussy git like ours.Parking: Large car park on site.Kid-friendliness: High chair was available. There isn't a changing table as such, but we were given access to the accessible toilet, which had much more room for changing.

Only a few other diners in when we visited, I opted for a mixed grill, portion size and presentation not great, but what there was of it tasted good if rather over cooked. Apple crumble was excellent, as was waiter service, but the process of tallying up bills is begging for improvement. We'll try them again in the future.

Gorgeous country pub, recently refurbished to a high standard. Super friendly, attentive staff, who made sure the open fire was roaring on a chilly November night. We were here for a weekend away staying locally at the Manston Guest House. We had dinner and desert here both nights and the food is superb, the best we’ve tasted in a long time and the prices are very reasonable. I wished we lived locally as we would certainly dine here on a regular basis, such a shame we couldn’t stay for Sunday lunch! Can’t recommend highly enough, we hope to come back soon.

Food delicious, service friendly, and the cleanest toilets you will ever find in a pub. We go for a meal every month and have never been disappointed. Our favourite pub.

What a fantastic pub/restaurant . This beautifully refurbished pub was such a great find. The comfortable and relaxed atmosphere had a twist of Caribbean charm and a wonderfully friendly reception from all the staff that served us- Michael especially was really great; attentive, but not obtrusive. The food was super and not overwhelming portion sizes, that I have found in other places - the bread pudding was exceptional. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the time we spent in the lovely atmosphere. If we come back to this area, we will definitely go to the Plough again.

Had not been to this pub in many years and visited with very elderly gentleman who had been here in April. Great impression from booking through to visiting. Extremely welcoming, food prices great as was food. Young waiter and owner chatty and extremely polite. Wished we lived nearer as we would become regulars. Thank you and good luck with your business and will visit again!

I confess I’ve never written a review quite like this before. It’s a story of good food; pleasant serving staff; reasonable prices; lovely surroundings; and at the end of what had been a perfect lunch, quite the most awkward and unpleasant experience over the bill. And the purpose of this review is to bring about change, because – as I said to the waitress as I left – what had occurred is going to cost a good pub-restaurant business. The event I’ll describe is one I won’t stand for, and neither will others. Allow me to explain. There were three of us for lunch. We hadn’t booked but it was a quiet mid-week day and we were greeted by Moya and Michael who showed us to a table in the conservatory. My partner and I were treating a recently-widowed friend to a trip out. We’d heard good things about food at The Plough and it was immediately clear that the new owners had worked hard to create a very different dining area. The conservatory – previously impossibly hot to sit in on a sunny day – had been roofed, and bifold doors installed to maintain a current of air on a hot day. The décor was bright; and interesting pictures had been hung – bright Caribbean scenes in particular caught my eye. The service was attentive, yet unobtrusive, and our drinks and food were served in timely fashion. The menu, though not the most extensive, offered a good choice and at very reasonable prices too. Being lunch, we ignored the starters and opted for a main and a dessert. My main and that of our guest was the day’s Special – a Jamaican chicken curry at £13, whilst my partner chose the baked cod fillet at £15. Portion sizes were very good, as was the quality of the food. The fish in particular was outstanding. My dessert (£4) was a scoop each of caramel ice-cream and a truly delicious mango sorbet. Our guest declined a sweet, opting for coffee instead, while my partner chose the Eton Mess at £7. Having thoroughly enjoyed our lunch, we were already at the stage of discussing to which of our friends we would be recommending The Plough. But then came the saga of the bill. I’d asked Michael our waiter for it, and he in turn had gone to a gentleman behind the bar whose name I didn’t catch. For the purposes of this review I’ll call him Front Of House (FOH). FOH approached our table clutching a small piece of paper and I gestured to indicate that I was the one who would be settling the bill. He came round to my side of the table; showed me a piece of paper with a single figure written on it; and then announced “£66.50”. I doubt that I’m alone in this, but when I’m treating people to a meal I really don’t like the total to be delivered in a way that means my guests know how much I’ve spent on them. However, I let that complaint go but I said to FOH that I wanted an itemised bill. FOH said that wouldn’t be a problem, and he returned moments later with an A4 exercise book in front of him, and standing at the end of our table proceeded to read-out aloud each of the items on the bill and their costs, ending with that total of £66.50. He then reached across the table, turned the page towards me and - clearly believing that I was in the process of checking the addition, announced that he used to be a Chartered Accountant. I said something along the lines of “well I do like to check”, to which FOH offered the comment that there are many restaurants where a total is merely jotted on a piece of paper and passed to the payer. And my response? That there are also people for whom the costs of things matter enough for them to want to know how much they’re paying and for what. These exchanges were upsetting and left both my guest and partner open-mouthed. They were also noticed by diners at a nearby table. And that was when I determined to tell Moya that FOH’s method of dealing with the bill for a humble pub-lunch really needs to change or it will cost them business, and that would be a shame, as until that point we all been enjoying things immensely. One final and related point to mention – the absolute icing on the cake if you like. FOH had arrived at the table wit
