The Plough Inn Manston
Sturminster Road, Manston, Sturminster NewtonI have not been to this pub for many years. After seeing it advertised in a local paper I looked up the menu and liked what I saw. I have now had lunch with my wife there and we were very impressed. It is an old interesting pub (look at the ceiling in the bar) it is cosy, comfortable and pleasantly decorated. The dining room at the back of the pub is very pleasant with far reaching views over the garden.The welcome was warm and friendly, the beer well kept. The menu is varied and caters for most tastes. There was also an addition to the menu of a Jamaican dish. We could not fault the food, it is probably the best meal I have had for some time. As for cost, in most places I know you would have to add another third to the bill. Well worth a visit.

King's Stag, Sturminster NewtonLovely New Year's Eve Sunday lunch with family and friends. Hadn't been here for a few years and wish I hadn't waited so long. Fab food topped off with excellent service from the very helpful and friendly staff . Great way to end the year, will definitely be returning soon.

William's Cafe
Dike & Son Supermarket, Ring St, Stalbridge, Sturminster NewtonLovely cafe. The staff are really friendly, the food is good, especially the breakfasts. I admit I initially thought the breakfasts were a bit on the pricey side, but they're worth every penny and a lovely treat.Highly recommend the coffee, and the mochas are amazing.

The Blackmore Vale Inn
Burton St, Marnhull, Sturminster NewtonI arrived as a visitor from Plymouth to play at the Sunday afternoon folk session. I was immediately impressed with the warm welcome I received. The landlord was excellent at organising the venue shifting furniture etc at the same time providing cheerful banter. The real ale was wonderfully kept (I had a few tastings to check!). This would be a regular haunt if it were down the road but a little far from my home patch!

The Blackmore Vale Inn, Burton St, Marnhull, Sturminster NewtonI reviewed this pub a couple of months ago after my first quiz night visit.Since then I have had an excellent value Sunday lunch with an astonishing array of vegetables.(no beef or lamb available but 5 other meats) and before tonights quiz had a really tasty and generously portioned shepherds pie accompanied by some fine Otter Ale

Clock House - Pizza and Kebab
Clock House, Bridge St, Sturminster NewtonAfter placing my order they told me that they only take cash. The nearest cash point takes a bit of finding and is a five minute walk there and back. I thought they were going to put the kebabs on to cook whilst I got the cash, but they didn't, so I had to wait alonger than necessary. I ordered 2 kebabs with sauce and one without. All three had sauce. The kebabs were 'deconstructed' with separate pitta. It was messy to eat compared to a normal kebab. They tasted delicious.

Market Pl, Sturminster NewtonGood food, service was good, they need coffee machine going all day often I would go in there for a coffee and my husband a cider as I do not want alcohol in the day so we end up going home or go elsewhere which is a shame.

Mumbai Bay
1 Bridge St, Sturminster NewtonFour of us had a great meal here last night. We knew that the new manager was taking over so expected a bit of disruption. As it happens, the only negative was that the service was slow due to there only being one waiter, but he was efficient, friendly and apologetic. The food was excellent, hot and freshly made and we took our own wine which is a big saving. We had poppadoms, starters and main courses and the total bill was £89 which we thought was very reasonable.By the end of the evening the new manager had arrived with the new card machine, so we could pay by card or cash. We'll definitely be going back.
