It was recommended, but I guess it was an off day. Burnt frozen chips, eggs deep fried, but ham was good. Not much of a menu three choices, all with frozen chips!

Disappointment...The food was dried out probably from being placed under a heat light for a considerable amount of time...The dish had flavour, unfortunately it fell short of expectations...The delay between our starts and mains was long, far too long...It allowed another table who ordered when we were on our starters and to receive their (main) meal...Clear their plates and were leaving as we discovered how dry our meal was...The Staff were Friendly enough...However the table service, we found was as slow as a Glacier...A reasonable selection of Real Ales...Err...Karaoke as well...Participants: oneIt wasn't us!Vegetarian options: LimitedParking: There Isn't Really

Possibly went at not a great time of year for lunch (mid-week, first week of Jan), so we're disappointed there were no sandwich or burger options. We settled for ham egg and chips, which was a tasty meal and filled us up. Plus there was a nice log burner going to warm us from a rain soaked day.

Great selection of mains. All 7 of us chose something different and there were still more choices. Good size portions too. I would happily go

Lovely old pub with plenty of seating to eat. Nooks and crannies for just sitting to soak up the atmosphere. There's even a book room where you can read and have a drink, very unusual in these days. We had a lunch and though there was limited menu, what was available was tasty and filling. I did get told that it has been taken over recently, so they are trailing a few things to see what people like. Very dog friendly and several people came in with their dogs to have a meal. Has a very friendly relaxed atmosphere, well worth a visit.Parking: Parking in front of the pub, not a lot of spaces. So if it's really busy, it could be an issue. I don't know if there is any parking nearby, as Upwey is not a big place.Kid-friendliness: Don't know about the evenings but lunchtime was very relaxed regarding children and there was a good choice of food for them.

Very nice out of the way local. Yes there's a few grockles but it is off the new Weymouth road. Good service and good range of ales. The best Sunday roast I've had for years.

Came highly recommended but disappointing for me, partly because their normal chef was on holiday so this review not wholly reflective of normal menu.My main gripe was the service I waited an hour for food to arrive with only a "sorry for delay" recieved, no other explanation. Serving "Fillipino food", I ordered spring rolls, which weren't too bad and stir fried chicken noodles, not the best, a plate of various noodles congealed with 3/4 pieces of chicken. The pub itself was otherwise lovely and I would recommend visiting for a beer or two and when the normal chef is back..

Had a Roast dinner which was beyond bad.Pork like cardboardBeef overcookedVeg microwaved or left to stand then re heated.Yorkshire pudding as tough as an old boot.Gravy like water!Beer was nice, service very polite barman, but impolite waitress (smile please)Music …… who wants heavy rock music played whilst they relax over their Sunday lunch unless you are Ozzy Osbourne !Worst Sunday lunch ever and now I know why it was easy to get a table because there was only 1 other family eating.

A very nice village pub. A must visit if you're in the area with an interest in Thomas Hardy. (He mentioned the pub in under the greenwood tree and the poem great things. Cozy atmosphere and very nice home cooked food.

Arrived after a funeral. About 20 of us. The friendly landlord and the INCREDIBLE chef magically provided us with a buffet which was absolutely amazing! Homemade sausage rolls too!!! We promise to let them know next time!!!! A warm welcome!!!

Had a lovely meal here tonight. I had the home cooked lamb curry but my dietry needs I can't have rice. The chef was only to happy to ablige and give me chips with it. Was absolutely lovely. My partner had sausages and mash with mix of veg and gravy he ate it all and didn't complain which is a first for him. Lovely pub lovely staff and try the special board for home made. Will be back
